Introducing: Piaget Polo 79 Blue Sodalite Dial—The Icon Gets a Heart of Stone (Live Photos)

Piaget's Polo 79 continues to prove it is one of the most thoughtfully evolved icons in contemporary watchmaking. For Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, the Maison has added a blue sodalite dial to its white gold version of the Polo 79—marking the first time an ornamental stone has been used in the contemporary reinterpretation of this model. The deep, inky blue of the sodalite natural stone plays beautifully against the rhodium-finished white gold case and bracelet, accentuating the emblematic gadroons that define the watch's character. It is a combination that feels both inevitable and entirely right.

Things to Know About the Watch

The sodalite dial carries approximately 2.8 carats of the natural stone, a mineral known for its rich, saturated blue with characteristic veining. It is the first ornamental stone application on the modern Polo 79, which itself was introduced in yellow gold in 2024 and took the 2024 Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève "Iconic Watch of the Year" award. The 38 mm case is a subtle enlargement from the original 34 mm of the 1979 reference, but the fully integrated bracelet construction means it wears closer to 39mm on the wrist. Case thickness is 7.45 mm. Alternating brushed and polished surfaces throughout the case and bracelet are the result of Piaget's deep fluency with gold.

The Movement

Powering the Polo 79 Sodalite is the manufacture Caliber 1200P1, the same ultra-thin movement found in the yellow and white gold predecessors. At just 2.35 mm thick, it is an automatic movement composed of 180 parts and 25 jewels that beats at 21,600 vph and delivers approximately 44 hours of power reserve. The movement is finished with blued screws, Côtes de Genève, circular-grained main plate, sunburst-motif wheels, and a 22K gold micro-rotor engraved with the Piaget coat of arms—visible through a sapphire case back.

On the Wrist & Price

The Polo 79 Sodalite builds on what was already our favorite version of this watch. Where the plain white gold dial read as quietly refined, the sodalite injects genuine presence—this is a watch you will notice across the room, and it will reward closer inspection.

The stone's depth shifts subtly under different lighting conditions, and the contrast against the white metal is exceptional. For those who see the Polo 79 as Piaget at its most itself, this iteration makes the strongest case yet.
