Fifty years on from Gérald Genta's waterfront epiphany, Patek Philippe marks the Nautilus half-century with a watch that speaks in whispers rather than declarations. The new Ref. 5810/1G-001, unveiled at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, is an ultra-thin white gold Nautilus limited to 2,000 pieces—a restrained, intellectually consistent tribute to the 1976 original that trades nostalgia for refinement. The sunburst blue dial keeps the embossed horizontal motif that has defined the reference since day one, but the case has been slimmed to proportions that would have been impossible in the Genta era. Additionally, the watch doesn’t feature a date function for a cleaner and distinctive look.
Things to Know About the Watch
The 5810/1G-001 is housed in a two-part 41 mm white gold case measuring just 6.9 mm thick, with the familiar contrast of satin-brushed and polished surfaces across the case, bezel, and integrated bracelet. The sunburst blue dial retains the horizontal embossing that has been a Nautilus signature for five decades, paired with applied white gold baton indices and rounded baton hands, both treated with white luminescent coating. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters via a screw-down crown, and a sapphire caseback reveals the movement. Production is capped at 2,000 pieces.
The Movement
Powering the anniversary piece is Patek's ultra-thin self-winding caliber 240, measuring 27.5 mm in diameter and just 2.53 mm thick—the movement that makes the slim case possible. It runs at 21,600 vph, offers a minimum 48-hour power reserve, and is wound by a 22K gold off-centered micro-rotor engraved with the inscription "50 1976 – 2026." The calibre uses a Gyromax balance and Spiromax balance spring, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal. Through the sapphire caseback, the minirotor's anniversary inscription serves as the quiet signature of the occasion.
