CVSTOS has long understood that a watch case is not merely a container—it is a statement. With the Challenge Purity Sapphire collection, the Geneva-based manufacture makes that statement in the most literal and luminous way possible: the tonneau-shaped Challenge II case is machined entirely from sapphire crystal. Four colorful expressions and one clear sapphire case with orange bridges. Yellow, orange, and blue, with matching bridges to match the color of the sapphire case, and a red sapphire case with black bridges—each limited to just ten pieces—turn the wrist into something closer to a vitrine than a timepiece.
Things to Know About the Watches
The Challenge II case measures 53.7 x 41 mm in its characteristic tonneau shape. Generous in presence, architectural in silhouette. The fact that the case material is sapphire crystal is not merely cosmetic: it demands extreme precision in machining and finishing, and the result is a watch that reads almost skeletal, with the colored bridges doing much of the visual heavy lifting. SuperLuminova-treated indices and pierced and chromed hands ensure legibility without disrupting the transparency of the whole composition. The watches are water resistant to 30 meters and are a spectacle on the wrist.
The Movement
Powering this watch is the in-house caibre CVSTOS CVS610, a manual-wound movement beating at 21,600 vph with 22 jewels and a 60-hour power reserve. The movement's bridges on the dial side—in orange, yellow, blue, or black, depending on the variant—are hand-beveled and function as the dial itself, visible through that sapphire architecture front and back via an open case back.
On the Wrist & Price
Each of the five variants is limited to 10 pieces, making the Challenge Purity Sapphire among the rarest references in the CVSTOS catalog, even more so than our very own Metropolitan PS Sapphire Skeleton Ice Blue. The watches are delivered on a rubber strap matching the case color, or on a nylon Cordura strap with a velcro fastener and a titanium double-loop clasp.
