From the Editor: My Thoughts on the Akrivia X Louis Vuitton Collaboration

Akrivia and Rexhep have somewhat of a cult following and it’s not until you get to peruse one of his watches in the metal that you come to realize the great and the not-so-great things about the brand and their watches. Today, as we published the news about the Akrivia X Louis Vuitton LVRR-01 Chronographe à Sonnerie, I had to go back to my notes when I dissected the Akrivia AK-06.

Introducing: Akrivia X Louis Vuitton LVRR-01 Chronographe à Sonnerie. A 10-Piece Limited Edition.

Louis Vuitton and Rexhep Rexhepi from Akrivia launch the LVRR-01 Chronographe à Sonnerie. Following the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for Independent Creatives announced in early 2023, Louis Vuitton is embarking on a series of collaborative timepieces with renowned independent watchmakers, with the inaugural project being the LVRR-01 Chronographe à Sonnerie born from the collaboration between Atelier Akrivia and Louis Vuitton.

From the Editor: My Thoughts on the New Louis Vuitton Tambour. I Call a Spade a Spade.

Two days ago, on July 5, 2023, at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Jean Arnault the Director of Watches at LVMH and the fifth and youngest son of tycoon Bernard Arnault introduced the new revamped Louis Vuitton Tambour. Luckily, I was not invited to the press trip for the presentation of this watch and regardless of that, I would’ve still expressed my thoughts the same way.

W&W 2021: Louis Vuitton Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon 'Poinçon de Genève' Sapphire

In a new illustration of Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking expertise, the Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon ‘Poinçon de Genève’ Sapphire features a case entirely crafted from a block of sapphire. A true technical and artistic feat, this completely transparent creation —the first of its kind in the history of watchmaking to be stamped with the Geneva Seal— launches a new era, displaying in minute detail every part of its skilfully open-worked manufacture movement, powered by a flying tourbillon.

Further enriching the range of timepieces conceived, developed, and produced in La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, comes the new Tambour Curve GMT Flying Tourbillon featuring a 46 mm case whose shape is an extrapolation of those of the Tambour Curve Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève, launched last year. This acclaimed, high-impact design presents a modern, contemporary look with a luxury that is all about understatement.

W&W 2021: Louis Vuitton Tambour Carpe Diem. Seize the Day with this Jacquemart Watch.

Having produced several special orders for watches with automata in secret for a select group of clients, Louis Vuitton decided to lift the veil on the mystery by creating a one-of-a-kind model. It took two years of development for the Tambour Carpe Diem to join the House’s watch collections.

W&W 2021: Louis Vuitton Tambour Street Diver. Four Colorful Models to Please Everyone's Wrist.

The new Tambour Street Diver is everything that Louis Vuitton symbolizes —high artisanal quality, multi-functionality, creative ingenuity and the freedom of expression. It continues the House’s horological journey into the unexpected, one that began in 2002 with the launch of the Louis Vuitton’s very first watch. Crafted from a single block of metal and larger at the base than at the top, the unique shape of the Tambour was inspired by a drum as its name in French suggests.
