Events: Carl Suchy & Söhne Does Dallas. The Belvedere was the Star of the Night.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a special evening with Carl Suchy & Söhne to present their collection —especially the incredibly sporty Belvedere watch— to a select group of watch collectors in Dallas, Texas. Our gathering at Lyla —one of Dallas’ hottest spots located in the heart of uptown— turned into a charming evening, savoring Rioja red wine alongside an exquisite spread of Mediterranean dishes.

Experience: Vacheron Constantin 'The Anatomy of Beauty' Event in Beverly Hills. Exquisite to Say the Least.

Last Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, we attended a very special event in Beverly Hills with Vacheron Constantin. The event named ‘The Anatomy of Beauty’ was hosted at a private estate —that looked just like a villa in the middle of Tuscany— in Beverly Hills. During the star-studded event, Vacheron Constantin unveiled a special film that was co-produced with director, producer, and cinematographer Louie Schwartzberg, the man behind the recent Netflix documentary ‘Fantastic Fungi’.

Experience: Vacheron Constantin Art & Timepiece Exhibition at Zadok Jewelers in Houston

Yesterday we traveled to Houston for the opening of the Art & Timepiece Exhibition by Jojo Anavim at the Vacheron Constantin boutique at Zadok Jewelers. Following its debut in the new Vacheron Constantin North American Flagship in NYC last year, the exhibition attracts watch and art aficionados alike, featuring a collection of the new watches released during Watches & Wonders 2022 and a five-piece series of paintings by the New York Pop Artist. The exhibition will be open through June 20th, at the Vacheron Constantin boutique within Zadok Jewelers on Post Oak Place in Houston.

Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrated its American debut of The Sound Maker exhibition this Monday, September 20th in New York City at 70-74 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District. Breaking News: Baselworld is Back in 2022. A Rising Phoenix or a Deadbeat Horse?

Baselworld was held for the last time in 2019. Now it is back in March/April 2022, and it will be very different. Instead of focusing on the spectacular appearance of luxury brands in the watch, jewelry, and gemstone sector, the new Baselworld will primarily be a B2B platform in the mid-range luxury segment. The future concept combines trends in the experience marketing market with the needs of the entire community in the mid and high-end segment of the watch, jewellery and gemstone industry.

Experience: The Backgammon & Watches Society. By Invitation Only.

Despite the current global pandemic, is almost impossible to not get together with other like-minded individuals or hobbyists in a safe manner. While there are clubs for almost every hobby out there, there are only a handful of clubs where watch enthusiasts seem to be quite active. Clubs like Cars & Coffee and the PCA —Porsche Club of America— bring together car guys that happen to also be watch guys and when it comes to watch-centric clubs we can only think of the Red Bar Group or a small group of collectors that used to hang out in South Florida.

Experience: A Summer Soirée with HYT Watches. The Hydromechanical Horologists Come to Dallas.

Even though the summer has not officially arrived, the warm spring weather in Dallas makes you feel the heat just as if the summer had already begun. Therefore, a summer soirée at the end of spring is not necessarily the wrong name for a great evening with friends, watches, good food, Aperol Spritz and Negronis. This time, HYT the hydromechanical horologists, partnered with us to bring their collection down to Dallas. In our opinion one of the most avant-garde watch companies and the only independent watchmaker that has gone where others have not, HYT was launched in 2012 by Lucien Vouillamoz, Patrick Berdoz, Emmanuel Savioz and Vincent Perriard. Their product offering, the most unique horological complication ever developed and the idea of introducing fluids into the heart of a mechanical watch seemed like the craziest thing to do.

Experience: The 2019 Rally Maya with Franck Muller. Latin America's Second Most Important Rally.

For a third year in a row, WCL joined the Rally Maya in its 6th edition this past weekend and this week. This exceptionally orchestrated rally with a route that reaches the confines of the most remote roads through the Yucatán Peninsula kicked-off this year from the archeological site of Uxmal to finish off in Tulum, one of the world’s most revered archeological sites. Despite the sweltering temperatures throughout the route that passed through Mérida, Izamal, Peto, Valladolid, the K’aak Cenote and Puerto Morelos, 110 classic cars were driven by their pilots and copilots —mostly classic Mercedes-Benz, Porsches, Jaguars, Alfa Romeos, Austin Healy, an Audi that belonged to former Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos and several Mini Coopers— in what is today the second most important rally race in Latin America after the Carrera Panamericana.

Experience: Armin Strom Collectors' Evening in Dallas. Presenting the Resonance Collection.

You all know that here at Watch Collecting Lifestyle we are big fans of independent watchmakers and that Armin Strom is one of those brands we really like. A relatively young company led by an easygoing and approachable team that puts their hearts and souls into their watches, Armin Strom still preserves the DNA left by his founder Armin Strom himself as untouched as possible, while always moving as fast as the watch industry calls for. To present their Resonance collection and the Dual Time Resonance Sapphire watch for the very first time in the U.S., Claude Greisler —Co-Founder and Technical Director Armin Strom— and Jean-Marc Bories —Head of North America Armin Strom— came down to Dallas by way of L.A. after attending the Watch Time event in Cali.

Experience: Audemars Piguet Private Dinner with Watch Collecting Lifestyle. Where Gold AP Watches Were the Common Denominator.

Yesterday November 13, 2018, we had the honor of hosting a private dinner with our friends from Audemars Piguet at one of Dallas’ best steakhouses. With Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House as our meeting point, the common denominator for the night, were the so many gold APs on the wrists of our watch collecting friends. From the massive 334-gram Royal Oak Offshore Chrono in 18K rose gold with ruthenium dial ref. 26470OR on our wrist, to the vintage-inspired champagne color dial Royal Oak Extra-Thin Jumbo in 18K yellow gold ref. 15202BA on the wrist of one of our friends, to the ultra-rare and exclusive 200-piece limited edition Royal Oak Frosted Gold in 18K white gold with a stunning 'grande tapisserie' blue dial ref. 15410BC, these were not the only gold AP watches on the wrists of our guests.

Experience: Art Basel 2018 with the 4th Audemars Piguet Art Commission. When Baselworld is not at the Messeplatz and the Magic from Le Brassus Fills the Air and the Halls.

Two weeks ago, we had the pleasure of joining Audemars Piguet on a once in a lifetime trip that included a visit to the AP Manufacture in Le Brassus —which you can read about it here— and Art Basel 2018 in Switzerland. For those of you not quite familiar with Art Basel, this is one of the most renowned art fairs in the world with three shows staged annually in Basel, Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida; and Hong Kong. Even as excited as we were about visiting Art Basel in its home city, there was a strange eerie feeling about being there when Baselworld wasn't taking place. It was almost like a 'déjà vu' without the usual crowds, the watch brands and the media people.

Experience: WCL Collectors' Cocktail with Phillips Watches in Mexico City. Taking Over the 'Club de Industriales'.

Two days ago on June 19th, 2018, Watch Collecting Lifestyle gathered with an elite group of Mexican watch collectors for a very exclusive event we hosted with Phillips Watches at the Club de Industriales in Mexico City. This members only club adjacent to the JW Marriott Hotel and Brasserie Lipp Mexico City, was founded in 1956 by an elite group of Mexican business owners that were looking for a place outside their company's headquarters to hold business luncheons, board meetings and/or private events.

News: Audemars Piguet Unveils 4th Art Commission HALO by Semiconductor for Art Basel 2018

On June 14th, 2018, Audemars Piguet celebrated the debut of the 4th Audemars Piguet Art Commission with a press conference and cocktail party that we were invited to and with a recap to follow in the next couple of days. At the special exhibition named HALO, guests experienced first-hand the immersive installation, presented as a ten meter wide and four meter tall cylinder-shaped structure, made up of vertical piano wires and a 360-degree screen. This year, the Audemars Piguet Art Commission was conceived and realised by British artist-duo Semiconductor, Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt, in collaboration with guest curator Mónica Bello, head of Arts and curator at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva.

Experience: The 2018 Rally Maya with Franck Muller. When You Load a Ferry with 110 Classic Cars Worth Millions.

For a second year in a row, WCL joined the Rally Maya in its 5th edition this past weekend. This exceptionally orchestrated rally with a route that reaches the confines of the most remote roads through the Yucatán Peninsula kicked-off this year from Cozumel. Despite the bad weather in Cozumel during the first days of the rally and the day before our departure, the organizers were able to successfully load 110 classic cars —worth millions of dollars— plus a dozen support vehicles on a ferry that took off from Cozumel towards Punta Venado —near Playa del Carmen— from where we would be heading towards Tulum.

Experience: WCL Collector's Evening at Hublot Dallas. An Evening of Negronis, Food and Watchmaking.

Last week, we hosted a special evening with a select group of watch collectors at the Hublot Boutique in Dallas, to spend some time with the newly released Hublot Techframe Ferrari 70 years Tourbillon Chronograph in titanium —which we reviewed here— and to learn more about watchmaking as some of our signature Negronis were served. At this intimate gathering, watch collectors were not only able to peruse the prototype of this new watch released at Baselworld 2017 but they were also able to experience first hand what disassembling an assembling a timepiece entails.
