As the United States prepares to mark its 250th anniversary, Zenith has released a fitting tribute rooted in genuine historical connection. The Chronomaster Revival A384 Liberty II Edition revisits the iconic A384 from 1969—one of the most storied tonneau-shaped chronograph cases in watchmaking history—and layers it with carefully considered symbolism honoring the American bicentennial and a half. The result is a collector-focused limited edition with real narrative weight, available in two materials: steel and forged carbon.
Things to Know About the Watches
The 37 mm tonneau case faithfully reproduces the original A384 proportions, offered in two materials: stainless steel for the primary edition and forged carbon for an ultra-limited run. The white-lacquered dial carries blue subdials at three and six o'clock, with the tachymeter scale rendered in full blue.
The commemorative details are subtle but deliberate: the "250" on the tachymeter scale and the "4" on the date disc are highlighted in red, nodding to the colors of the American flag and the symbolic date of independence.
Most evocative is the chronograph's seconds hand, which features 13 alternating red and white stripes drawn directly from the original colony flag's symbolism. The caseback is engraved "AMERICA 250th ANNIVERSARY." The steel edition is limited to 250 pieces— a number that mirrors the anniversary itself—while the forged carbon version is capped at just 25 pieces. Both are exclusively available in the United States.
The Movement
Powering both versions is the El Primero 400, a direct descendant of the calibre that made the original A384 historically significant, widely recognized as the world's first automatic, integrated high-frequency chronograph when it launched in 1969. It beats at 36,000 vph, enabling precise measurement to the tenth of a second, with a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The movement features a column-wheel mechanism and Côtes de Genève finishing on the oscillating weight, and visible through the display case back.
On the Wrist & Price
The steel version of the Zenith Chronomaster Revival A384 Liberty II Edition wears exactly as the wristshot suggests, controlled and tidy at 37 mm, sitting close to the wrist on the iconic Gay Frères ladder bracelet, which remains one of the most satisfying period-correct bracelet designs in the vintage chronograph category. Meanwhile, the forged carbon version, worn on the blue Cordura rubber strap with red accent stitching, is stealthier with its matte carbon texture, which plays beautifully against the white-and-blue dial and gives the watch a decidedly contemporary edge that the steel version doesn't have.
Sticker Price USD 10,600 for steel and USD 13,400 for carbon. More info on Zenith here.
