Baselworld 2018: Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon Blue. The Pinnacle of Independent Watchmaking.

In what we can only describe as the pinnacle of independent watchmaking, Greubel Forsey once again takes the center stage at Baselworld 2018. Highlighting their expertise in 'black polishing', the brand released four new watches that capitalize on the art of 'black polishing'. One of these four watches is the new Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon Blue available in platinum or 5N red gold. In an analogy with the sunset's 'green flash', the extremely rare optical phenomenon that occurs on the horizon of an ocean or a lake at sunset and where just for an instant, one last flash of green light appears on the horizon..

he H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer collection was launched in 2015 and since then it has been the bold, modern interpretation of the classy spirit of this manufacture. With a strong design which makes reference to the industrial world, models in this collection are both elegant and sporty, tailored for daily wear. The new H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Center Seconds Cosmic Green is equipped with a steel case and is the first watch in this collection to feature a cosmic green dial, reminiscent of the jewel tones of the Northern Lights, producing a look that is both elegant and resolutely contemporary.

Available in platinum or 18K red gold comes this new feat of horology from Blancpain to enrich its Villeret collection. The new Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Rétrograde —Flying Tourbillon Jumping Hours Retrograde Minutes— ref. 66260-3633-55B is fitted with a generous 42 mm case and with an array of several horological complications that make it a very elegant and special timepiece. Featuring a flying tourbillon at 12 o'clock and retrograde minutes with jumping hours at 6 o'clock, the icing on the cake is its 'grand feu' enamel dial.

After the successful release in 2016 of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph CK2998 Limited Edition with blue dial, this year comes a new iteration of the reissue of the legendary and most sought-after Omega ref. 2998. Originally released in 1959, the CK2998 is one of the most iconic Speedmasters in the world. This second iteration of the modern Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch CK2998 retains its classic Alpha hands, symmetrical stainless steel case measuring 39.7 mm in diameter and this time fitted with a 'panda' black and white dial configuration.

Baselworld 2018: De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk V2. Hands-on with the New Entry Level Watch from this Independent.

After a couple of years without releasing any novelties, De Bethune made a come back last January 2018 with the release of the DB28 Steel Wheels. A week ago at Baselworld 2018, De Bethune added two new pieces to their lineup and one of them is the new DB27 Titan Hawk V2 we have here and its sibling with silvered white dial. While the new De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk V2 is the new 'entry level' watch for this manufacture, the design and finishes clearly embrace the principles and values of the manufacture without cutting any corners.

Another big release from Hublot at Baselworld 2018 and the result of a collaboration we absolutely loved since its introduction in 2016 —you can read about them here. This year, the Hublot Classic Fusion Berluti lineup just got even better with two new chronographs that clearly enrich this collaboration between the Parisian shoemaker and the watchmaker from Nyon. The first watch sports a titanium case and a gorgeous ocean blue dial, while the second one comes in 18K king gold with a burgundy red dial the evokes the color of wine.

Baselworld 2018: Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s. Live Pictures & Pricing.

Following its launch in 1956 —three years after the launch of the Fifty Fathoms—, the style of Blancpain’s Bathyscaphe evolved with the times. The 70s saw bold dial markings with Arabic numerals and windows for the day of the week and date at 3 o’clock. The new Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s, which will be limited to 500 pieces, captures the allure of that model from the seventies and while incorporating Blancpain's current technical advances comes out as the perfect modern watch with a strong vintage aura.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Omega Seamaster 300M launched in 1993, this year at Baselworld 2018, Omega decided to present 14 new models that have been released as part of a complete makeover to the watch that includes a larger case size measuring now 42 mm in diameter, a new movement —calibre 8800—, polished ceramic dials, reshaped hands, ceramic bezels and even new materials that go beyond what we are used to see from Omega, amongst other updates.

To celebrate 30 years of Mille Miglia Chopard watches, Chopard has released the new Mille Miglia Racing Colors limited edition. Cased in a generous 42 mm stainless steel vintage inspired case and available in five different dial colors, the new Mille Miglia Racing Colors limited edition takes its inspiration from competing cars in the Mille Miglia race between 1927 and 1940. A watch that we couldn't wait to see in the metal at Baselworld 2018 was the new Arnold & Son Globetrotter. The first worldtimer for Arnold & Son and one of our favorite watches this year. The new Arnold & Son Globetrotter features a 45 mm case in stainless steel case and a three-dimensional world time display that takes the center stage. This 3D world time display is held by a large central arched bridge spanning the entire diameter of the dial.

The latest addition to the Glashütte Original Senator Excellence family is a new Perpetual Calendar in a limited edition with partially skeletonized dial revealing the movement within with its calendar discs and jewels. Taking a more prominent stage are the barleycorn guilloché motif on the galvanic module cover as well as the redesigned moonphase indicator and the leap year indication at 12 o'clock. Limited to 100 pieces, the new Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar is a very good looking watch and definitely much better than its predecessor.

In a groundbreaking move from independent watchmaker Urwerk comes the new Urwerk AMC —Atomic Master Clock. This combination between an incredible Urwerk mechanical timepiece and an Atomic Master Clock 'Monolith' console, is like something coming out of a science fiction movie or an episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Taking its inspiration by the concept behind the Breguet Pendule Sympathique Clocks, the new Urwerk AMC timepiece is as innovative as it gets and living proof that when it comes to 'haute horlogerie', there are no boundaries.

With a mere total thickness of 3.95 mm, the new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic just released at Baselworld is the world's thinnest self-winding watch. Setting the fourth world record under the Octo Finissimo line, the new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic is simply incredible. The automatic movement equipped with a tourbillon follows the Octo Tourbillon Finissimo in 2014, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater in 2016 and last year’s Octo Finissimo Automatic.

One of the most iconic watches in the world just got an interesting update. Since the debut of the modern Fifty Fathoms in 2007, date indications have appeared through a window placed at the 4 o’clock position. Now for the first time, Blancpain has brought its signature instant-change large date complication to the Fifty Fathoms, displayed in two windows located at 6 o’clock. The new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Grande Date or 'Big Date' as most of us are already calling it features a 45 mm satin brushed titanium case and the signature domed rotating bezel with superluminova.

Without a doubt, one of our favorite watches from Omega at Baselworld 2018 and the only one we would even consider purchasing. The new Omega Speedmaster 'Dark Side of the Moon' Apollo 8 Limited Edition brings back memories of that time when Armin Strom himself used to skeletonize watches for other Swiss watch brands like Omega, a brand whom he collaborated with in several occasions. One particular timepiece that stands out from those collaborations is the 2003 skeletonized platinum Speedmaster Professional.

Another home run year for Hublot at Baselworld.
