The Ralph Lauren 888 collection continues to serve as the house's most classically proportioned watch family, and the new 38 mm reference doubles down on the formula: clean lines, traditional design codes, and a case size that reads as universally versatile. Available this April at select Ralph Lauren boutiques and authorized retailers, the 888 38 mm pairs a white lacquered dial with polished stainless steel and a Swiss quartz movement.
Things to Know About the Watch
The case measures 38 mm in diameter and just 6.10 mm thick—slim enough to disappear under a dress cuff without resistance. Polished stainless steel runs from the case to the crown to the three-row bracelet, giving the watch a unified, dressy presence on the wrist. Ralph Lauren has fitted a flat sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective treatment and a closed caseback, with a water resistance rating of 30 meters. The inter-lug width measures 18.05 mm, and the bracelet is interchangeable—a practical concession that opens the door to strap swaps without a visit to a boutique. The clasp is a three-part fold-over design in polished steel.
The dial is where the 888 38 mm makes its strongest visual case. A white lacquered and polished surface provides the backdrop for a mixed-numeral configuration: Roman numerals mark the quarter hours while Arabic numbers fill the remaining positions.
It's a layout that nods to the California dial tradition without fully committing to the conventional top-bottom split, and it lends the face a more eclectic character than a straight Roman or Arabic arrangement would. The Breguet-style hour and minute hands are finished in shiny black lacquer, offering clean legibility against the white ground while reinforcing the watch's classical vocabulary.
The Movement
Inside is the Calibre RL057, a Swiss quartz movement made by Richemont Maisons. At 6¾ lignes with 57 components and four jewels, it's a straightforward hours-and-minutes engine with an estimated battery life of approximately 60 months. Ralph Lauren has applied vertical Côtes de Genève decoration to the movement, a finishing touch that, behind a closed case back, will go entirely unseen. It's a gesture toward craft that suggests the brand takes its watchmaking identity seriously, even if the audience for that decoration is limited to service technicians.
