Audemars Piguet is presenting three new versions of the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 44 mm. Each of these three new watches includes a new dial design, a black ceramic case, and a textured rubber strap unlike any other strap ever released by the brand. Fitted with a choice of smoked blue, green, or grey dials, and with totally new Arabic numerals instead of the customarily applied markers, the green and blue references feature matching ceramic bezels, and push-pieces, and screw-locked crown also in ceramic.

Rumors about the opening of an Audemars Piguet Boutique in Dallas had been going on for a while after Eiseman Jewelers quit carrying the brand back in 2018. While many watch collectors thought that Dallas would never have an Audemars Piguet Boutique —as this is a major Rolex town—, to everyone’s surprise, the work for the boutique started last summer. Opened in partnership with Material Goods out of New York City, the new Audemars Piguet Boutique was set to open months ago but the Covid-19 pandemic drastically delayed the opening date.

I’ll start this feature by first saying that ‘Black Lives Matter’ and I wouldn’t be talking about this watch right now, had it not belonged to the man that did so much for the American Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his incredible speech “I Have a Dream” almost 57 years ago on August 28th, 1963. On that day, he was probably wearing either this Timex watch —exhibited at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport— or the Rolex Datejust that we’ve seen in many of his pictures.
