First presented in 2021 with a blue dial and then in 2024 with a salmon dial, the In-Line Perpetual Calendar is Patek Philippe’s newest perpetual calendar with an innovative patented one-line display that shows the day, date, and month on a single line in an elongated aperture beneath 12 o'clock. Now, for Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, the reference 5236P in platinum returns to the center stage with a new look.
This platinum grand complication presents its day, date, and month through a single full-width aperture at 12 o'clock, arrayed in a clean horizontal line, and this time is fitted with a silvery dial with vertical satin-finish and black-gradient rim, charcoal gray white gold applied faceted baton-style hour markers, and charcoal gray white gold faceted baton-style hands.
A charcoal-gray composite strap with a fabric texture and cream stitching completes the watch. The strap is secured by a patented platinum triple-blade fold-over clasp. The perpetual calendar has long been Patek Philippe's most eloquent argument for mechanical complexity, but reading one has never been the most intuitive experience.
Things to Know About the Watch
The 5236's defining feature is its patented in-line perpetual calendar display—a single aperture spanning the dial's upper register that reads day, date, and month sequentially across a continuous band. Three patents cover the mechanism. Secondary round apertures handle leap year and day/night indication, while small seconds and moon phase share 6 o'clock.
The 41.3 mm platinum case—11.07 mm thick— is fully polished, set with a single brilliant-cut diamond at 6 o'clock — a restrained touch. The silvery dial features a vertical satin finish and a black gradient rim, with charcoal-gray white-gold faceted baton markers and hands that sit in quiet contrast to the pale ground.
The Movement
Caliber 31-260 PS QL is a self-winding movement measuring 34mm in diameter and 5.8mm thick — thin enough that the 5236 remains wearable despite its complication count. The platinum off-center minirotor winds efficiently while staying clear of the dial-side architecture. With 503 parts, 55 jewels, a Gyromax balance, and a Spiromax spring oscillating at 4 Hz, the caliber delivers between 38 and 48 hours of power reserve. It carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
On the Wrist & Price
Despite its larger size, the 5236P-011 is appropriately substantial for a grand complication yet extremely good-looking on most wrists. The vertical satin dial and streamlined aperture give it a legibility that more traditional perpetual layouts don't always achieve. For collectors seeking a perpetual that is unique in design and layout, this watch checks all the boxes. Without a doubt, this is our favorite iteration of all three dials released to date.
