Things to Know About the Watch
Initially created in 2023, the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 epitomizes the philosophy of the Hybris collection. In 2025, Jaeger-LeCoultre reimagines this extraordinary timepiece with a monochromatic palette that echoes the Art Deco period, which gave birth to the Reverso in 1931. The new black and grey lacquer dials, featured on both the front and reverse sides, create a rich, dramatic contrast with the warm tones of the 18K pink gold case, bridges, and decorative plates.
At the mechanical heart of this 51.2 x 31 mm timepiece beats Calibre 179, featuring the fourth evolution of the Gyrotourbillon—Jaeger-LeCoultre's proprietary multi-axis tourbillon explicitly conceived for the Reverso. This remarkable 123-component mechanism features an ultra-light titanium inner cage that rotates 360 degrees every 16 seconds, while the peripheral carriage, mounted on ball bearings, completes its rotation once per minute. The two cages turn perpendicularly to each other at different speeds, creating a mesmerizing ballet of mechanical precision. Supported by a ring of ball bearings rather than a conventional bridge, the flying Gyrotourbillon appears to float ethereally between the front and back dials.
The Duoface mechanism, patented by Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1994, enables this Reverso to display two different time zones—one on each dial—using a single movement. This functionality transforms the timepiece into an ideal companion for the global traveler, while the manually wound Calibre 179 delivers a reliable 40-hour power reserve.
The reverse dial continues the artistic narrative with black lacquer highlighting the skeletonised hours-minutes ring and its supporting bridges, creating an airy aesthetic that contrasts beautifully with the warm tones of various movement components and the soft texture of micro-blasting. Just as the front dial, the verso back dial is a treat for the eyes and a show stopper with the multi-axis gyrotourbillon visible at six o’clock from both sides.
The case itself remains true to the iconic Reverso design, with its instantly recognizable rectilinear geometry and signature gadroons above and below the dial. The inside of the cradle features a deeply engraved sunray pattern radiating from a black lacquer disc. Despite housing the highly complex 382-component Calibre 179, the case maintains an elegant profile of just 13.63 mm in thickness.
Even the 18K pink gold folding buckle demonstrates Jaeger-LeCoultre's commitment to excellence. Weighing nearly 30 grams and incorporating 46 components, the patented adjustable buckle features a double-wheel system that allows for micro-adjustments to the nearest 0.5 mm, ensuring perfect comfort on the wrist.
