Rare Bird: Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931. Icon of Icons.

The JLC Reverso needs no introduction as it is one of the most iconic watches in the world. The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 ref. 2788570 was released in 2013 and is definitely one of the best tribute watches in the market and one that brings the model from 1931 back to life simply flawlessly. The Reverso was created in the 1930s as a convenient watch for polo players who wanted to be able to protect the crystals and dials of their watches while playing. The Reverso is a perfect example of the Art Deco movement with its unmistakable geometric silhouettes, timeless design and those three grooves on the top and bottom of its case profile.

Its glossy jet black dial —more semi-glossy in person— features warm creamy lume in the same color as the model from 1931 for the markers and the baton hands. In the dark, the lume glows bright and long lasting with a beautiful mint green color.

The stainless steel case measuring 46.8 mm long, 27.4 mm wide and 7.3 mm thick features the unmistakeable three grooves of the Reverso watch on the top and the bottom of the case. By simply reversing the case, the Grande Reverso becomes an item of jewellery that can be personalized with a custom engraving.

The strap is made of extremely supple black leather crafted by Casa Fagliano, the most important and renowned polo and saddlery company from Argentina. The strap is smooth to the touch and the back is hot stamped with Fagliano's name and 1931.

The Grande Reverso is powered by the manual- winding Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 822 with 21 jewels that provides a power-reserve of 45 hours when fully wound.

Even if you are not a polo player, if you're looking to wear one of the most iconic watches in the world, this tribute watch is the way to go. Hard to find, this rare bird comes up for sale every now and then. If you find one, expect to pay anywhere between $9,000-10,000 USD based on the availability of box and papers and the overall condition of the watch.
