Experience: Vacheron Constantin Highlights from the SIAR Mexico 2020

Vacheron Constantin SIAR 2020

The year 2020 has been a challenging year, especially when it comes to watch fairs and watch events. After Watches & Wonders 2020 had to be conducted digitally, we were almost certain that the SIAR 2020 —Salón Internacional de Alta Relojeríia— in Mexico City would not be taking place this year. However, to our surprise, the SIAR 2020 still took place last week and we didn’t hesitate for a single minute to book our tickets and get down there for the first in-person watch event of the year.

Executed under the most rigorous health and safety measures, the SIAR 2020 gave us a priceless opportunity to see friends from the watch industry we haven’t seen since last year and experience up close and personal some incredible watches from our favorite brands including Vacheron Constantin —who had pulled out of the SIAR for a couple of years but came back in full force for the 2020 edition.

Considering the SIAR is the one and only watch show in Latin America, our friends from Vacheron Constantin Latin America & Caribbean brought in some incredible timepieces including the recently released Égérie collection along with major complications including the Overseas Perpetual Ultra-Thin with Blue lacquered dial ref. 4300V, the platinum Traditionnelle Chronograph Perpetual Calendar ref. 5000T/000P-B048 and the Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon ref. 6500T/000R-B324 amongst others.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Ultra-Thin Blue Dial ref. 4300V

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar ref. 4300V was first released in 2018 and in 2019 the blue lacquered dial version ref. 4300V/000R-B5094 was added. This reference sporting a gorgeous blue dial brings this watch another notch up. The watch is fitted with a slender case in 18K 5N pink gold measuring just 8.1 mm in thickness and powered by a new calibre 1120 QP/1. This new Overseas Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar is simply stunning in the metal and is powered by one of the slimmest movements on the market.

Secured by an interchangeable 18K 5N pink gold folding clasp, the equally interchangeable dark blue alligator or rubber straps provide a chic way of accentuating the refinement of this model. On the wrist, the new Overseas Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar ref. 4300V wears true to its size and impeccably.

Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon ref. 6500T

Just a handful of brands can pride themselves in combining two of the greatest horological complications —the minute repeater and the tourbillon— in one timepiece and of course Vacheron Constantin is one of them. Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Chronograph Perpetual Calendar ref. 5000T

If you like monochromatic watches, the new Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Chronograph Perpetual Calendar ref. 5000T/000P-B048 is an exceptional timepiece in platinum that will complement your grey and black outfits like no other watch out there. Equipped with the new in-house Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1142 QP and cased in a generous 43 mm case in 950 platinum, the newest grand complication from Vacheron Constantin has chosen to combine two of the finest complications out there: the chronograph and the perpetual calendar. With its classic round case and elegant black crocodile strap, this Chronograph Perpetual Calendar ref. 5000T embodies formal elegance with supreme mastery.

Its monochromatic slate-colored opaline dial features various shades of gray, a white railway minute track, a white tachymetric scale surrounding the dial, and dauphine hands. From a design standpoint, the dial is clean and easy to read, regardless of the amount of information that is packed into this watch. Reflecting the layout of 1940s Vacheron Constantin chronographs, the dial features a running seconds indicator at 9 and a 30-minute chronograph register at 3 o'clock both distinguished by a circular-brushed ring with a snailed center.

Vacheron Constantin Égérie Selfwinding

The Vacheron Constantin Égérie is the newest collection unveiled by the brand at the beginning of the year and this is the second time that we get to peruse one of their watches in the metal. The Vacheron Constantin Egérie Selfwinding is available in either 18K 5N pink gold or in stainless steel with a 35 mm case size. The 37 mm case is reserved for the Égérie Moon Phase model. This new watch like the new generation of Vacheron Constantin Overseas, benefits from an interchangeable strap system offering versatility and variety. Its off-centered dial layout highlights the position of the crown between 1 and 2 o’clock, and its pleated effect is reminiscent of delicate fabric finishing, brought to life by the art of tapestry.

The pebble-shaped 35 mm case which happens to be perfectly sized even for slimmer wrists, features a diamond-set bezel that looks like a ‘halo’. Along with the bezel, the texture on the silvered opaline dial with concentric circles and pleats plays with the light in a formidable way. A delicate interplay of textures and intertwined shapes, alternating flat and subtly raised areas; a pleated effect reminiscent of fabric makes this dial simply beautiful.

The 18K pink gold applied Arabic numerals —in an italicized font— are daintily scalloped like lace to adorn the dial and bring further depth to it. Applied over a snailed perimeter, they play with the ‘feuille’ shaped 18K pink gold hands and complement the bezel set with 58 round-cut diamonds.

Sticker Price $28,200 USD in 18K pink gold and $20,200 USD for stainless steel on bracelet. For more info on Vacheron Constantin click here.
