News: Presenting the Breitling Top Time Deus Chronograph Limited Edition

Breitling Top Time Deus Limited Edition

Breitling is pleased to announce its partnership with Australian lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina. Deus Ex Machina —God from the machine— roared into Australia’s cultural consciousness in 2006, with some neatly customized motorcycles and a quaint notion that doing something is more fun than just owning something. Deus Ex Machina is a step bigger than a brand: it’s a culture. Their openness and enthusiasm strike a chord with people, wherever they are. Deus —“day-us”—didn’t set out only to sell hand-built motorcycles and quality clothing for free spirits, but to celebrate a culture of creativity. All are welcomed under the Deus roof, where there’s respect for the honesty and enjoyment of the machine. Inclusiveness, authenticity, enthusiasm. It’s a simple and sincere pitch that has winged Deus Ex Machina across the world. Deus Ex Machina says simply there’s no “right way” to do individualism, it’s all the same juice.

As part of this exciting new partnership, Breitling is now also the official timekeeper of the Deus Swank Rally —the epic motorcycle championship— celebrating vintage bikes in diverse locations around the world, including Italy, France, Australia, and Bali. But the Top Time Deus Limited Edition isn’t just for bikers, as Breitling CEO Georges Kern points out:

“Bikers, boarders, surfers, digital nomads, this is a timepiece for dynamic people of action, purpose, and style. Our versatile Top Time Deus celebrates having the freedom to explore the world your way, at your pace.”

The people behind Deus Ex Machina share this view. “The Deus philosophy recalls an era before the various pursuits of fun —motorcycling, surfing, skateboarding, whatever— were marketed into fundamentalist factions. All are welcomed under the Deus roof,” says founder Dare Jennings.

And anyway, who says you have to pick just one pursuit? Californian Forrest Minchinton, who’s passionate about surfboards as well as motorcycles, is a prime example.

“It’s all about a life well ridden, and if you can stop time while keeping time, all the better,” says Minchinton. He’s part of the triumvirate of Breitling’s new Deus Squad – which also includes Hawaiian competitive surfer Sierra Lerback and French motorcycle engineer and designer Jeremy Tagand.

All three have been involved with Deus Ex Machina for years and are now a part of its rugged and fearless DNA. Breitling is excited to have them on board for the launch of a timepiece that expresses their no-limits approach to life.

Co-designed with Deus Ex Machina, the new Breitling Top Time Deus Chronograph is a nod to Breitling’s original 1960s edition and a true tribute to the nomad spirit. The first Top Time had a clear mission —suiting the needs of “young and active professionals” with a range of “ultra-modern” chronographs. The retro vibe of today’s edition has an enduring appeal. It’s not about keeping time, but rather expanding it whenever adventure beckons. Cased in stainless steel with a case measuring 41 mm in diameter, the Breitling Top Time Deus Chronograph sports a silvered dial with black squircle-shaped counters with yellow and orange accents, and the Deus logo and its adage “In benzin veritas” —In Petrol We Trust— offset in white on its black tachymeter scale. The watch is delivered on a brown racing-themed calfskin leather strap with pin buckle and for those customers that order the watch online at www.breitling.com, they will also get a stunning limited-edition Deus coffee table book and unique canvas tote bag.

Protecting the automatic Breitling calibre 23 —a COSC certified chronometer with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours—, a solid case back features the iconic Deus artwork of a retro-looking motorcyclist in full flight designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell as well as the 1,500-piece limitation that is not individually numbered.

But maybe the quirkiest detail is its chronograph hand in the shape of a lightning bolt. And like lightning, you’ve got to be fast as there are only 1,500 of these watches available. In its first four weeks, the Top Time Deus will be an online exclusive before hitting Breitling’s global retail network.
