Despite the use of a brand name that could’ve not been any worse —trying to convey the founder’s last name Baillod using a combination of letters and ones—, Chapter 4.1 The Veblen Dilemma is the latest from Swiss watch brand BA111OD. This Swiss-made tourbillon is offered under CHF 4,000 Swiss Francs —approximately $4,300 USD—, bringing a breath of fresh air to an overtly saturated industry where Swiss-made tourbillons are typically not available at a low price point. Cased in grade 5 Titanium, the Veblen Dilemma features a generous but lightweight 43 mm diameter case, and the tourbillon in this watch has been entirely produced in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland.

This manual wound Tourbillon calibre BA.01 is the result of an encounter between the experienced watchmaker Olivier Mory, BCP Tourbillons, and Thomas Baillod founder of BA111OD watches. Baillod is claiming uncompromising chronometry, a definitely contemporary fundamental aesthetic as well as the tangible demonstration of the sales concepts he has been teaching for several years. This new model of the Swiss brand BA111OD brings a highly spectacular watchmaking complication usually offered by the biggest brands at prices unattainable for most. i.e. The least expensive Swiss-made tourbillon watch is the TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillon priced at around $17,000 USD.

This new release sends a powerful message to the future of the Swiss watch industry, suppliers and retailers, by reinforcing the attractiveness of the Swiss mechanical industry at more competitive prices without compromising on quality. Complicated mechanical watchmaking of excellence, exclusively manufactured in Switzerland, is now available to a large audience. Thomas Baillod, founder of a watch sales concept turned into a brand, unveils Chapter 4.1 The Veblen Dilemma. This new watch is offered with a two-year warranty, equipped with 105 hours of power reserve —more than four days— and a shock tolerance of more than 5,000 Gs.

Chapter 4.1 The Veblen Dilemma features a grade 5 titanium case coated with a DLC Black Ice treatment that delivers a ‘gun metal’ color with anthracite undertones.

The BA111OD Chapter 4 Veblen Dilemma is being offered in a limited edition of 220 pieces as a tribute to the 220th anniversary of the creation of the tourbillon. Additionally, the watch features a smart bracelet with an NFC emitting chip.

Sticker Price CHF 3,920 Swiss Francs — approximately $4,241 USD. For more info on BA111OD click here.
