Insider: Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time ref. 7900V. With In-House Movement and a Blue Dial, it is an Absolute Winner.

The first generation of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time was discontinued a couple of years ago with the release of the updated Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection presented in 2016. Released at the end of 2017, the new Overseas Dual Time is now powered by an in-house calibre and boasts a new case design and dial layout. Fitted with a 41 mm case —1.5 millimeters smaller than the previous iteration of the Overseas Dual Time ref. 47450—, the watch is available in either 18K 5N rose gold or stainless steel with its iconic bezel evoking Vacheron Constantin’s famous Maltese cross emblem.

The new references for the Overseas Dual Time ref. 7900V are the following:

  • Stainless steel case, blue dial ref. 7900V/110A-B334
  • Stainless steel case, silver-toned dial ref. 7900V/110A-B333
  • 18K 5N pink gold case, silver-toned dial ref. 7900V/000R-B336

Things to Know About the Watch

One great thing about the new Overseas Dual Time is that the watch is now equipped with the amazing interchangeable strap system that Vacheron released with the revamped Overseas collection. The stainless steel model is fitted with a stainless steel bracelet with half Maltese cross-shaped polished and satin-brushed links and delivered with two additional straps —alligator and rubber— matching the shade of the dial and equipped with an equally interchangeable stainless steel folding clasp.

The lacquered dials featured faceted and luminescent gold hands and hour-markers; a double graduation bearing the minutes and seconds scales. While the hours hand indicates the local timezone corresponding to the user’s current location, the hand tipped with a triangular arrow —red in the case of the silver-toned dial— shows the time in a second timezone, generally known as “home time”.

A 12-hour indication adjustable via the crown in both directions —position 1: local time, independent jumping adjustment; position 2: home time, dragging adjustment of both time zones and minutes—, along with a day/night indication set to home time, and a pointer-type date display, adjusted and secured via a screw-lock pusher at 4 o’clock and synchronized with local time.

As far as the 18K 5N rose gold model goes, this one features a silver-toned dial just like the one on the stainless steel mode but with 18K rose gold markers and hands and is delivered on a brown alligator strap with 18K 5N rose gold folding clasp. While the stainless steel model is available with blue or silver-toned dial, the 18K 5N rose gold reference is only available with a silver-toned dial.

While the dial layout on the previous Overseas Dual Time ref. 47450 we featured here seemed a little bit cluttered to most people, despite that, we still think that the previous generation of this watch had much more character and charm thanks to its textured dial. Nevertheless, the new models are gorgeous and in particular the blue lacquered dial one is pure fire.

The Movement

The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time is now powered by the newly developed in-house calibre 5110 DT, which is a major upgrade from its predecessor ref. 47450 which was powered by the calibre 1222 SC derived from a Jaeger-LeCoultre movement. One thing worth pointing out is that thanks to this new movement, the watch is slightly thinner than the previous generation of the Overseas Dual Time.

The new 234-part movement is a 37 jewel movement that oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz —28,800 vph— to provide a 60-hour power reserve with twin barrels. Fitted with a display case back opposed to a solid one, the gorgeous movement is now fully visible with its The new Vacheron Constantin Calibre 5110 DT, stems from several years of development and it features a 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a wind rose.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time ref. 7900V wears true to its size and with stunning wrist presence. While when the watch was first released we felt that it didn't look as good as its predecessor; however, after perusing the watches in the metal, our opinion about it changed completely.

Even though we are not big fans of the red pointer hand for the second time zone —not very classic looking as Vacheron Constantin tends to be— on the silver-toned dial reference, the dial layout is much cleaner and well balanced than on the previous generation of the Overseas Dual Time. Additionally, having the ability to go from a bracelet to a strap in a matter of seconds makes this new watch much more desirable that its predecessor. A watch that checks all the boxes if you are looking for a sporty but dressy watch at the same time powered by an in-house movement and by one of the three most important watch brands out there. Dressed up or dressed down, the blue dial reference is our favorite and for the price, you are getting a lot of Vacheron Constantin.

Sticker Price $39,500 USD for 18K rose gold and $24,700 USD for stainless steel. For more info on Vacheron Constantin click here.
