It’s been a while since we last talked about automobiles here on WCL, and as we begin delivering the content for the new year 2021, we said to ourselves, why not talk about the most impressive Porsche ever to start the year with a bang. Very much like an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Rubens Barrichello 1 ref. 26071IK.OO.D002CA.01, the Porsche 911 GT2RS Clubsport comes in a limited edition of only 200 units.

After the success of the Royal Oak Offshore Rubberclad in 2002, Audemars Piguet released nine very special limited edition watches within the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore collections that also bear a rubber-clad bezel and the Rubens Barrichello 1 is one of them. Launched in 2005, the Royal Oak Offshore Rubens Barrichello 1 is a 150-piece limited edition in titanium with a rubber-clad bezel and 5 additional pieces with a different dial. Honestly, we couldn’t think of a better racing-inspired watch to pair this Porsche with.

Limited to 200 units worldwide, the Porsche 911 GT2RS Clubsport is the most powerful Porsche ever built. Boasting 700hp with its 3.8 liter six-cylinder aluminum twin-turbo horizontally opposed engine, the Clubsport is like nothing else ever built by Porsche and available for purchase to just a few hundred people worldwide.

The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is the most powerful, non-street legal, GT customer sports car they’ve ever built. It is an enhanced version of the 911 GT2 RS —the most powerful street-legal 911 to date— built for the race track. The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport comes from Flacht in the heart of Weissach, a place where motorsports legends are born and winning models are developed. Only 32 kilometers northwest of Stuttgart the home of Porsche and its factory.

It’s a perfect combination of impressive power coupled with elements of a thoroughbred race car. The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is powered by a 700hp 3.8 liter six-cylinder aluminum twin-turbo horizontally opposed engine and can deliver absolute maximum performance at any time, thanks to its optimized intercooler with redesigned supply and return air feed, as well as its raceoptimised water spray system. The shift time optimized 7-speed Porsche PDK —Doppelkupplung— instantly transmits any pressure on the accelerator to the rear axle. The exhaust system, specially developed for the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, features a 100cell metal catalytic converter and perfectly complements the motorsport optimized design.

The chassis was also designed specifically for the race track by their development engineers in Weissach. The separately adjustable compression and rebound stages of the three-way shock absorbers on the front and rear axle allow steering response, tire grip, and handling characteristics to be adapted to various track profiles. This not only ensures total precision on every circuit but also maximum control when driving at the limits at the track.

Focussing on the essentials: consistently lightweight bodywork thanks to the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic on the roof, front lid, front apron, doors, tail section, and rear lid, as well as the elimination of any unnecessary weight in the interior. As is typical of motorsports. Further aerodynamic improvements were tested in the wind tunnel, resulting in a larger rear wing and additional flics on the front apron. This ensures increased downforce and provides excellent stability during rapid load changes.

This single seat, production based race car with an optional passenger seat, not homologated, not road approved requires 98-octane fuel and its lightweight bodywork with intelligent aluminum-steel composite construction includes weight reducing improvements. Featuring a fully integrated roll cage complying with FIA Homologation Regulations for safety cages, the Clubsport is a beast in the track. The front carbon fiber underbody for improved aerodynamics and stability at high speeds along with the carbon fiber front lid with air catches and mid cooler for improved thermal management makes this car unlike any other.
