W&W 2024: Piaget Polo Date 150th Anniversary Edition (Live Pics)

For Watches and Wonders 2024, Piaget is once again bridging the gap between past and present. For this year’s exhibition, they have struck the perfect chord between the bright gadroons of the historic Piaget Polo and the casual-chic allure of the iconic Piaget Polo Date with a ladies and a men’s watch celebrating the 150th anniversary.

To fully understand the impact of the Piaget Polo watch on the history of the Maison and the wider watchmaking world, one must go back in time to the pivotal year of 1979, when everything was turned on its head. When the sport-chic era was in full swing, at a time when integrated steel bracelets reigned supreme, Yves Piaget took a gamble by launching a versatile watch that was both sophisticated and timeless, which embodied the Maison’s core values.

Limited to 300 pieces each, the watches are cased in stainless steel. The men’s model comes in a 42 mm case reference G0A49023 and the ladies’ model in 36 mm reference G0A49028. Both watches are equipped with rubber straps and double folding buckles in stainless steel.

The ladies’ 36 mm reference G0A49028 features a bezel set with 60 brilliant-cut diamonds —approx. 0.97 carats—and a dial with hour-markers set with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds —approx. 0.08 carats.

Featuring a date aperture at 6 o’clock and applied markers —diamond markers and diamond-set bezel for the ladies’ 36 mm model— and a seconds’ hand counterweight with 150 on it. The watches are delivered on a beautiful textured rubber strap with a deployant clasp with apparent pin buckle to make the watch slightly dressier. The Piaget Polo Date 150th anniversary edition is water-resistant to 100 meters.

The 42 mm model is powered by the in-house automatic calibre 1110P based on the ultra-reliable in-house calibre 800P. This movement only 4 mm thick, is equipped with 25 jewels and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph —4 Hz— to provide a power reserve of 50 hours. Meanwhile, the 36 mm ladies’ version is powered by the automatic calibre 500P1.

The movement is fully visible via the screwed-in display case back that by the way, is very nicely finished. The movement features a slate gray oscillating weight decorated with circular Côtes de Genève and stamped with the Piaget manufacture coat-of-arms.

On the wrist, the watches wear true to their size and with ultimate wrist presence. Both watches are limited to 300 pieces each and sold at the Piaget Boutique network.

Sticker Price USD 21,400 for 36 mm and USD 14,500 for 42 mm. For more info on Piaget click here.
