W&W 2024: Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro Rotor No Date Steel Platinum (Live Pics)

Another one of our favorites this year at Watches & Wonders 2024 is the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date Steel Platinum. This new watch is the epitome of watch art with its minimalistic design with no date and also features a new color called ‘Golden Siena’ on its dial. The dial is finished in Grain d'Orge —barley grain— hand-guilloché and fitted with 18K gold rhodium-plated indexes and Delta skeletonized hands.

The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor has been at the heart of Parmigiani Fleurier’s revival since its launch in 2021. This sophisticated timepiece, with its in-house movement indicating hours, minutes, and date, returns with a new addition this time lacking a date indication. In comparison with the previous Tonda PF Micro-Rotor, this model indicates hours and minutes but omits the date window, in alignment with Parmigiani Fleurier’s pursuit of purity and understatement, which serves as the brand’s mantra. Equipped with a case in stainless steel with a platinum bezel, the proportions of the watch are just perfect with a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 7.8 mm.

A true chameleon depending on lighting conditions. Lighting plays a crucial role in how we perceive the colors of watch dials and in the case of the ‘Golden Siena’, the intensity, direction, and temperature of light can all influence the way a color appears on a watch dial. For instance, natural sunlight can enhance the richness and vibrancy of colors, making them appear more vivid and true to life.

On the other hand, artificial lighting sources such as fluorescent or incandescent lights may alter the way colors are perceived, sometimes causing them to appear warmer or cooler than they are. However, in the case of the dial on the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date Steel Platinum ref. PFC914-1020021-100182-EN is the angle and amount of glare on the crystal —regardless that this watch is equipped with an ARunic anti-reflective sapphire treated crystal— that would make the dial evolve from a sand color to more of a pale salmon color.

The Movement

The automatic movement powering this new Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date Steel Platinum is the in-house micro-rotor calibre PF703 with a power reserve of 48 hours. This movement beats at a lower frequency of 21,600 vph —3Hz— and is composed of 166 parts including 29 jewels. The movement is a treat for the eyes and is fully visible via the display case back.

On the Wrist & Price

On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size and with immaculate wrist presence thanks to its very slender profile. Parmigiani Fleurier is at the pinnacle of its time in the watch industry and its novelties this year continued to elevate the brand even more.
