Introducing: MB&F Legacy Machine FlyingT Malachite

MB&F Legacy Machine FlyingT Malachite

First launched in 2019, the Legacy Machine FlyingT was MB&F’s first-ever machine dedicated to women. It embodies elegance and vitality over the softer conventions of womanhood. Awarded the prize for Best Ladies’ Complication at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the Legacy Machine FlyingT launched in three different 18K white gold versions. Then in 2020, they were joined by limited editions in red gold and platinum, featuring guilloche dials as well as the sixth edition with a Lapis Lazuli dial and an 18K white gold case set with diamonds. Today, MB&F is presenting this masterpiece of horology with a stunning malachite dial.

This is the second of a series of gemstone editions that MB&F \will announce once a year.

After Lapis Lazuli now comes the intense green color of a Malachite dial. Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral that features patterned coloration in shades of green. Typically it is found as crystalline aggregates or crusts, often banded in appearance, like agates. Malachite may form when water containing carbon dioxide or dissolved carbonate minerals interacts with preexisting copper-containing rocks or when solutions containing dissolved copper minerals interact with carbonate rocks.

Malachite’s characteristic swirling and concentric band patterns are a result of this formation process. These bands reflect the waxing and waning of the solutions necessary for the formation and the changes in their chemical content. Most commonly, the stone occurs in massive form as a microcrystalline aggregate, in lumps, or as a crust on other rocks.
