Insider: Laurent Ferrier Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen and Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen

When we think about Laurent Ferrier, the first thing that comes to mind is how flawlessly this brand executes its watches and particularly their movements and dials. Released with an Evergreen —forest green colored— dial, now comes a stunning pair composed of the Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen in stainless steel and the Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen in 18K red gold.

The term ‘Evergreen’ combines timeless character with the associations of the color green: a shade deeply connected with nature, growth, and renewal. Embodying these principles, the latest interpretations of the Micro-Rotor evoke this enduring elegance. The curve of the Classic red gold case reflects the pure, restrained Laurent Ferrier style, while the stainless steel cushion-shaped Square case exudes sophistication and provides a more assertive presence on the wrist compared to the Classic model.

Things to Know About the Watches

While both watches have the same Evergreen dial, the case sizes are slightly different. The Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen in stainless steel —at 41 mm in diameter— is slightly bigger than its Classic Micro-Rotor counterpart —at 40 mm in diameter— by just one millimeter. However, the Square model tends to wear larger than its actual size because of its cushion-shaped case. Despite the difference in diameter, the thickness of both watches is the same at 11.10 mm.

Even though the dial color is the same on both watches, the warm tones of the 18K red gold case, seem to bring the forest green color much better than the stainless steel counterpart. Nevertheless, both watches are extremely beautiful. For those that prefer precious metals, the 18K red gold Classic Micro-Rotor seems to also be a better deal from a price point perspective as it is only CHF 10,000 Swiss Francs more expensive than the stainless steel Square model.

The Movement

Both watches are powered by the in-house Laurent Ferrier calibre Calibre FBN229.01. This automatic movement with pawl-fitted micro-rotor is composed of 186 parts and 35 jewels. Turning the watches over reveals the exquisitely finished movement that provides a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound and while beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph. This is one of the few brands, where one could wear the watch inside out as the movement is a real treat for the eyes.

On the Wrist & Price

On the wrist, both the Laurent Ferrier Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen and the Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen wear impeccably. While the Square stainless steel model wears bigger than its actual size, the Classic in 18K red gold wears true to its size. Both models have a strong presence on the wrist due to the unique hue of the Evergreen colored dial; however, the warm tones of the 18K red gold case along with the price, make the Classic Micro-Rotor our preferred model without a doubt. A true chameleon depending on lighting conditions with hues that will go all the way from a forest green to a dark olive green and everything in between.
