Introducing: Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue

Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue

Twelve years after its launch in 2010, Laurent Ferrier is maintaining its momentum with an intense blue version of one of its latest emblematic models, the Classic Origin. Equipped with a 40 mm titanium case, this ultra-light watch was initially developed to pay tribute to all the aesthetic codes created by Laurent Ferrier himself in 2010, the Classic Origin has succeeded in becoming an icon of the LF collection. The new Classic Origin Blue not only represents Ferrier’s favorite color but also a must have in any collection.

After the Classic Micro-Rotor, the Classic Traveller, the Square Micro-Rotor, the École Annual Calendar, the Grand Sport Tourbillon and the recent Sport Auto, it seemed self-evident to adorn the Classic Origin with a deep blue dial. With its Assegai hands, drop-shaped indices, and elegant powdery-grey hour track, as well as the case’s perfect combination of straight and curved lines and the abundance of exceptional finishes on the movement, this piece truly represents the quintessence of the brand.

The Grade 5 titanium 40 mm case features the same harmonious contours as the very first Laurent Ferrier creation, the Classic Tourbillon. It also features the same emblematic ball-shaped crown whose gracious architecture is inspired by 19th-century pocket watches. Its original proportions and plump shape make winding a true pleasure.

The carefully selected intensity of blue on this new dial, along with the graphic lines borrowed from the Annual Calendar, give this latest reference a very modern and dynamic feel, similar to the previous Classic Origin Opaline and Classic Origin Green. This new, stronger shade of blue is a breath of fresh air for the entire collection. The opaline dial presents a gradation of blues that transition from a lighter shade in the center to deepest blue around the periphery. The discreet powdery-grey hour track is punctuated by sky-blue numerals. The composition is finished off with a powdery-grey center cross and four of the brand’s iconic drop-shaped indices. A snailed seconds counter at 6 o’clock features subtle sky-blue markers. Sweeping over the dial are LF’s famous Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands, in 18K white gold.

The Movement

Powering the new Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue is the manual wound calibre LF116.01. Visible through the sapphire case back, it incorporates a screw balance and Breguet-type overcoil balance-spring. This combination enhances precision and mitigates positional timekeeping errors while improving isochronism. The brand’s famous long-blade ratchet system is another highlight of the movement. This polished, hand-crafted ratchet is emblematic of Laurent Ferrier, offering an inimitable sound during winding that is characteristic of the most demanding watches. When the Classic Origin Blue is perfectly wound, it can operate independently for 80 hours thanks to its excellent power reserve.

While the calibre LF116.01 may be more minimalist than some of the brand’s complication movements, it offers the same high-end finishes as every other Laurent Ferrier creation. The bridges are micro-beaded, with black rhodium finish and entirely hand-polished edges. Each screw-head is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is adorned with a hand-made interior angle, reflecting the workshop’s meticulous attention to detail.
