Celebrating its momentous 250th anniversary, Breguet continues its global tour after captivating audiences in Paris with the Classique Souscription 2025 and Shanghai with the Tradition 7035 edition. Now the storied Maison arrives in New York, presenting the Type XX Chronographe reference 2075 in two distinctive interpretations that honor both horological excellence and aviation history. The black dial chronograph is a regular production piece and the silver dial one is available in a limited edition of 250 pieces.
These remarkable flyback chronographs celebrate three visionary figures who shaped the intersection of time and flight: Abraham-Louis Breguet, the genius founder whose innovations revolutionized watchmaking; Louis Breguet, his great-great-grandson who conquered the skies through aircraft manufacturing; and the intrepid aviator duo Dieudonné Costes and Maurice Bellonte, who achieved the seemingly impossible by completing the first Paris-to-New York flight in just over 37 hours from September 1st to 2nd, 1930.
Their aircraft, the Breguet 19TR Super Bidon—aptly named for its oversized fuel tank—bore distinctive question marks on both sides of its fuselage, symbolizing humanity's eternal quest to push boundaries and explore the unknown.
The Legend of Type XX: From Military Precision to Civilian Elegance
The Type XX story began in the early 1950s when the French Air Force issued specifications for a pilot's chronograph wristwatch, code-named Type 20. Breguet emerged as one of the winning suppliers, delivering precision instruments that would serve aviators across military and civilian applications.
By 1952, Breguet had established its reputation with instrument-watches including two military variants—the Type 20 for the Air Force and Type XX for Naval Aviation—alongside numerous civilian Type XX models. This legacy inspired Breguet's current Type XX collection, with the fourth generation launching in 2023.
The new reference 2075 models honor a 1955 civilian gold timepiece that originally featured a satin-finish silver dial, later updated with a black dial. Today's reinterpretations offer both aesthetics: one with a black aluminum dial and another limited to 250 pieces with a solid silver dial, creating a seamless bridge between past and present.
Crafted in Exclusive Breguet Gold
Both new timepieces showcase Breguet's signature gold alloy, featuring warm blond highlights that distinguish it from conventional gold. One version features a striking black anodized aluminum dial, while the other boasts a lustrous solid silver dial. These designs draw direct inspiration from an iconic civilian timepiece Breguet unveiled in 1955, bearing the historic serial number 1780, perfectly embodying the brand's commitment to technical innovation while honoring its rich heritage.
The 38.3 mm case diameter matches the historic 1955 timepiece exactly, with a 13.2 mm thickness entirely crafted in Breguet gold—a proprietary alloy enriched with silver, copper, and palladium, first unveiled with the Classique Souscription 2025. The slim, bi-directional rotating bezel features black numerals on the black-dialed version and blue numerals on the silver-dialed variant. The crown proudly displays Breguet's distinctive "B" signature.
Both models house sophisticated variations of Breguet's high-performance 5Hz calibre 728, introduced in 2023. The flyback function allows instant chronograph reset and restart with a single press of the 4 o'clock pusher—a feature essential for precise timing in aviation and sports.
For the first time, these models feature manually wound versions of calibre 728, finished in Breguet gold. The calibre 7279 powers the black-dialed version with a 15-minute counter at 3 o'clock, while calibre 7278 drives the silver-dialed variant with a 30-minute counter, also at 3 o'clock. Both display small seconds at 9 o'clock. This movement is composed of 258 parts and 28 jewels, and provides a power reserve of 60 hours.
The transparent sapphire case back reveals hand-engraved artwork created entirely in Breguet's workshops. The detailed engraving depicts the Breguet 19 aircraft in flight alongside the precise 1930 transatlantic route, with frosted European and North American landmasses contrasting beautifully against the smooth Atlantic Ocean.
Revolutionary Duralumin and Silver Dials
Paying tribute to Louis Breguet's pioneering use of Duralumin—95% aluminum alloy—in aircraft construction, the Type XX 2075 introduces this aerospace material to Breguet's dial-making repertoire—a first for the collection. A discrete "Al" marking between 7 and 8 o'clock confirms this innovative material choice. Both dials feature the exceptionally fine, applied Breguet name in signature Breguet gold. The silver version showcases applied Arabic numerals and hour markers, also crafted in Breguet gold, creating harmonious visual depth.
The black variant achieves its deep color through advanced anodization, creating a protective oxidation layer that prevents corrosion. Breguet employs cutting-edge aerospace-grade deep black anodizing with exceptional mechanical resistance, ensuring superior legibility and durability.
The silver-dialed version remains faithful to the original 1780 timepiece, featuring a solid silver dial with vertical brushed finishing that creates understated, sophisticated brilliance. A subtle "Ag925" marking between 7 and 8 o'clock discretely indicates the precious metal composition. This variant also includes a tachymeter scale for speed measurement based on distance-over-time calculations.
Price Information
Both models include interchangeable leather straps: gradient black for the black dial version and gradient blue for the silver dial variant, completing the sophisticated aesthetic while ensuring comfort and versatility. Additionally, the watches are delivered on a special 250th-anniversary red leather case, individually numbered, inspired by historic Breguet Moroccan leather cases.
This exceptional timepiece represents more than just horological achievement—it embodies the spirit of human exploration, technical innovation, and artistic excellence that has defined Breguet for two and a half centuries.
