Introducing: Bell & Ross BR-X3 Blue Steel. Hands-on Review with Live Photos.

Bell & Ross has taken a bold evolutionary step with the new BR-X3 collection, transforming the iconic BR-03 foundation into something more advanced. The ‘X’ designation carries significant weight in the brand's nomenclature—borrowed from aerospace project code names, it signals experimental excellence and cutting-edge performance.

The BR-X3 introduces two compelling variants: the lightweight BR-X3 Black Titanium and the aerospace-inspired BR-X3 Blue Steel. Both represent the most advanced level of sophistication in Bell & Ross's professional range, featuring revolutionary multi-layer case construction that combines materials, colors, and finishes in an entirely innovative approach. For this hands-on review we will focus on the Blue Steel version in blue.

Things to Know About the Watch

What immediately distinguishes the BR-X3 is its multi-component, multi-layered 41 x 13.3 mm ‘sandwich-style’ case construction. This innovative architecture maintains the signature ‘circle in a square’ aesthetic while introducing enhanced structural integrity through two titanium or steel plates that secure all components together. Four screws ensure robustness by securing the plates, middle case, bezel, and case back—a design that's both lighter and more resistant than traditional construction.

The Blue Steel variant channels royal inspiration through its sophisticated blue color palette. The satin-finished and polished steel case incorporates anodized blue aluminum for the bezel ring and structural columns—a direct homage to Apollo 11 crew flight suit connection systems that space enthusiasts will immediately recognize.

The three-plate dial construction features a blue sunray varnished base with polished rhodium-plated applique and micro-blasted rhodium-plated insert. The X-shaped metallic decoration receives polished edges for refinement while maintaining micro-blasted surfaces for technical character. Skeletonized rhodium-plated hands and polished ‘Baignoire-style’ indices—that are embedded into the minute-graduated flange—filled with white SuperLumiNova X1 ensure exceptional legibility through green emission properties.

The X-shaped metallic applique frames the date window at 3 o'clock—showing three dates—and power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock for a power reserve of 70 hours—almost three days. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, with sapphire case back—black-tinted on the Titanium model—showcasing the movement with its skeletonized oscillating weight.

A blue openworked rubber strap pairs with a satin-finished, polished steel pin buckle that matches the case treatment, creating perfect visual harmony.

The Movement

Both variants house the calibre BR-CAL.323 calibre, an automatic COSC movement exclusively developed by Kenissi for Bell & Ross. Operating at 28,800 vph, the movement provides an impressive 70-hour power reserve while carrying COSC certification and Bell & Ross's confidence-inspiring 5-year warranty.

On the Wrist & Price

Despite their sophisticated construction, both models maintain 100-meter water resistance for professional-grade durability. The combination of advanced materials, innovative case architecture, and COSC movement creates instruments that genuinely advance professional timekeeping while honoring Bell & Ross's aviation heritage. The BR-X3 collection successfully demonstrates that contemporary watchmaking can embrace cutting-edge materials and construction techniques while maintaining traditional values. On the wrist, this is Bell & Ross at its best.
