W&W 2024: A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down Blue (Live Pics)

Since its debut in 1999, the award-winning Datograph with its unique combination of technical finesse, elaborate artisanal artistry, and exceptional design has turned into a symbol of the pursuit of innovation that has distinguished A. Lange & Söhne for decades. For Watches & Wonders 2024, the brand has presented a new limited edition Datograph Up/Down ref. 405.028 with a blue dial. Cased in 18K white gold, the watch is available in a highly exclusive limited edition of 125 pieces.

Things to Know About the Watch

Up until now the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down was only available in 18K rose gold or platinum both with a black dial. Equipped with a 41 mm case, this chronograph is one of the most iconic Lange timepieces out there. The new blue dial version of the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down featues running seconds at 9, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3, an oversized date display at 12, and a power reserve indicator at 6 o'clock. Fitted with a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, the readability of the dial is uncompromised at any angle.

The elegant 18K white gold case measuring 41 mm in diameter by 13.1 mm in thickness, is finished with a satin brushed middle case band and highly polished bezel and case back ring. The watch features rectangular pushers for the chrono —that are soft as butter— and a convenient date adjustment rectangular pusher at 10 o'clock. The crown is of course signed A. Lange & Söhne and the pushers feature alternating brushed and polished areas.

The Movement

Powered by the Lange manufacture calibre L951.6 composed of 451 parts and 46 jewels —4 in gold chatons—, the movement beats at a frequency of 18,000 vph. The sharply polished reentrant angle of many calibre components is an indication of the amount of work involved: this delicate, time-consuming process can only be executed by hand. The 8-gap column wheel coordinates all the switching operations of the chronograph mechanism. Rockers and levers of various shapes engage with this wheel. This movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours.

On the Wrist & Price

On the wrist, the watch wears very comfortably and perhaps a little larger and more like a 42-43 mm case. The watch is equipped with a gorgeous blue alligator strap with Lange pin buckle. Renowned for its exquisite timepieces that combine traditional watchmaking techniques with innovative design, every watch exemplifies the brand's commitment to excellence and the new A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down Blue is no exception.

Sticker Price Upon Request —based on the previous pricing of other Datograph Up/Down watches approximately USD 100,000. For more info on A. Lange & Söhne click here.
