Insider: Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark. Hands-on with the new 300-Piece Limited Edition.

When one thinks of Ulysse Nardin watches, the first models to come to mind are the diving and maritime inspired timepieces. The new Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark Limited Edition is the newest addition to the Diver collection with a very robust timepiece. This new watch with a blue color scheme and incredible wrist presence is ready to take on the oceans and any diving challenge it is confronted with. Built like a tank or should we say like a 'submarine', the new Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark is available in a limited edition of only 300 pieces.

About the Watch

Fitted with a very generous case in titanium measuring 46 mm in diameter and a thickness of at least 15 mm, the new watch sports a gorgeous textured blue dial with a hammerhead shark motif with a total of 15 sharks. In person, one can tell how well finished this dial is and its hue of blue evokes the oceans and its maritime nature.

The dial is very maritime looking with raised oversized applied markers with luminescent material, a small round date aperture at 3 o'clock and an off-centered running seconds subdial at 5 o'clock with highly contrasting red hand.

While the seconds subdial takes the center stage on the dial of the new Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark, its prominent partially skeletonized hands balance things out.

The watch is equipped with a very nice blue rubber strap that has been redesigned. This new rubber strap features an expandable element that adjusts to changes in wrist size during dives, caused by the compression of your neoprene diving suit. The strap features a titanium element on both segments engraved with 'Ulysee Nardin' on the 12 o'clock side and 'Limited Edition' on the 6 o'clock side. The strap is equipped with a titanium deployant double folding clasp.

The Crown & Helium Release Valve

Considering its depth rating and suggested use as a diving tool, the new Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark watch is equipped with an automatic screw-on decompression valve system with red rubber ring at 9 o'clock.

The robust titanium screw-down crown at 2 o'clock is also accented with a red rubber ring and to reassure the watertight capabilities of the watch, the crown is protected by a fold-out crown guard engraved with its "1000M" depth rating in red. On its side, the crown guard features a red Hammerhead Shark.

The Bezel

The watch is equipped with a notched uni-directional rotating bezel in titanium with blue rubber insert with wave pattern. The bezel is extremely well made and designed with ultimate functionality in mind thanks to its 12 very large notches and serrated ends that will allow for a good grip even when handled with diving gloves.

The Movement & Case Back

The beating heart powering the Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark limited edition watch is the Ulysse Nardin Calibre UN-320 with silicium spiral and anchor escapement. The movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. To protect the movement and guarantee a water resistance up to 1,000 meters, the Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark watch sports a solid screwed-in case back with a Hammerhead Shark in bas-relief.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive Hammerhead Shark wears true larger than its actual size and simply massive. This new watch feels and looks like the 'tool watch' that it is meant to be with a resolutely masculine and exceptionally bold construction. Regardless of its huge size, the watch still wears quite comfortably with a minor slight discomfort that can be caused by its crown protecting guard if one flexes the wrist upwards. Regardless, this watch is in the money and you get a lot of watch for the price. The watch is limited to 300 pieces.
