From the Editor: Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite. A Bold Move, Overhyped Luxury or Overmilking the Same Cow?

Omega’s latest release, the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite, left me thinking a lot about the minimal effort the brand puts into releasing new watches and how, despite its lack of creativity, the pricing of its watches continues to increase without proper justification. Since 1969, Omega has been milking the same cow with the same boring story.

The result is an interplay of reflections, vibrations, and warmth that echoes the light of Earth’s satellite.

Rare Bird: F.P. Journe Society Chronometer. The Only Way to Get One is by Being Part of the Club.

There are secret societies and then there is the Journe Society. The one and only watch ‘lunatic’ secret club that we know about. So secret and so exclusive that the only way to join is by buying an insane number of timepieces from the man himself, monsieur François-Paul Journe. You can join many private clubs and societies by filing an application, getting approved, and paying the dues, but when it comes to the Journe Society, you will be vetted by François-Paul Journe and other existing founding members before you can even aspire to be part of it.

SIHH 2019: Hermès Arceau L'Heure De La Lune Moonphase Watch. Live Pictures & Pricing.

While Hermès has been making watches for a very long time, it wasn’t until the last three to four years that the orange box leather goods maker has turned into a power house in the field of horology with their very own watch manufacture located in Switzerland. Without a doubt, one of the best releases at the SIHH 2019 was the new Hermès Arceau L'Heure De La Lune moonphase watch available in two versions, one with meteorite dial and the other in aventurine. With two mobile subdials —time and date— that circle around the dial of the watch day-by-day eclipsing two moons located at 12 and 6 o’clock —South and North hemispheres respectively—, the indication of the cycles of the moon is cleverly represented in a way in which it was never done before by any other brand.

Fitted with a 42 mm 18K pink gold case and a gorgeous granulated silvered dial, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire raises in full glory just like the moon goes from its waxing gibbous to a full moon.
