After the huge success of the Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Rainbow, two new watches draw their inspiration from it and make an entrance with a strong punch. The new Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Galaxy in black and clear sapphire feature bezels set with 48 amethysts and sapphires. With a nice gradient between the 48 stones —but nowhere near to the gradient achieved by Rolex for their Rainbow Daytona—, the color of the stones goes all the way from purple to red in a gradient that includes shades of light blue, violet and bright pink in between.
Things to Know About the Watch
The case middle and back of the new Big Bang Unico Sapphire Galaxy is cut from blocks of sapphire, a material which is almost as hard and scratch-resistant as a diamond —9 on the Mohs scale as opposed to 10 for diamond. The only parts of the watch that are not made of sapphire are the bezel set up as well as the crown and pushers which are made of titanium.
With a case size of 45 mm, the new Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Galaxy limited editions reinterpret the history of the Big Bang Sapphire Rainbow released last year with much bigger bang.
Only a few pieces forming the spine of the watch are made from titanium: the screws, the crown, which is over-molded with silicon, and the deployant buckle. Its skeleton dial, made from transparent resin, reveals all the gears of the proprietary Unico HUB1242 movement and its finishes.
Complementing its ethereal silhouette, the watches are fitted with transparent structured lined rubber straps matching the color of the sapphire crystal cases.
Powering the new Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Galaxy is the in-house Hublot automatic flyback chrono movement HUB 1242 UNICO. The movement with black PVD treatment features a column wheel and double clutch mechanism visible on the dial side. The movement provides a power reserve of 3 days —72 hours.
