Experience: Helicopter Ride to the Grand Canyon with the Omega Co-Axial Chronograph Speedmaster 'Lunar Dust'. A Lifetime Experience.

Yesterday we told you everything about our VIP collectors weekend in Las Vegas with Omega here. Today, as discussed in our previous post, we are featuring the adrenaline boosting helicopter ride we took into the Grand Canyon. Riding in a helicopter is definitely one of those things that every watchlifestyler should do at least one in their lifetime. A helicopter ride from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon takes approximately 45-50 minutes of flying time —each way— and the scenery is definitely worth overcoming your fears. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles —446 km— long, up to 18 miles —29 km—wide and over a mile —6,000 feet or 1,800 meters— deep; however, even with its striking measurements, the Grand Canyon is not the deepest nor the longest canyon in the world as the Indus Gorge through the Himalaya mountain range in northern Pakistan is the deepest canyon in the world and the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua, Mexico is deeper and longer than the Grand Canyon.

Once on board and after reaching the right altitude be prepared to enjoy the amazing views that Nevada and Arizona have to offer. As the helicopter headed southeast from Las Vegas, we flew over Henderson, Boulder City —settlement 20 miles outside from Las Vegas where workers developing Las Vegas first settled— and the grandeur of the impressive Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the Colorado River located just about eight miles from Boulder City and approximately 45 miles from Las Vegas —roughly 20 minutes in the helicopter. The Colorado River runs for 1,450 miles —2,330 km— all the way from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of Baja California Mexico.

As the helicopter continued to fly east heading towards the Grand Canyon the scenery continued to present impressive rock formations, plateaus and steep creeks. As soon we saw in the distance the terracotta colored building of the Grand Canyon Skywalk tourist attraction—a transparent horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge that overlooks the Grand Canyon—, we knew we were about to be immersed in all the splendor of one of the world's greatest wonders of nature. As the helicopters went down the Grand Canyon the eagle was about to land.

Once at the Grand Canyon we enjoyed the serenity of the landscape and reflected on our watch collecting lifestyle. During our 30-minute stop —that went by too quickly— we cooled down with a nice cold moist face towel, enjoyed some champagne and snacks and took plenty of pictures for your viewing pleasure.

As we left the Grand Canyon in awe, we headed back to Las Vegas via a different flight route that included a refuel stop in the middle of the dessert. What an experience. On the way back we were able to see part of the historical trade route named the 'Old Spanish Trail' which connected northern New Mexico with California and which was explored by the Spanish 'conquistadores' since the 1500s. Additionally, we flew over the Valley of Fire with bright red rock cliffs and steep creeks, gypsum mines and capricious rock formations.

To wrap up our flight, we flew right above the Las Vegas Strip. In all, this was a lifetime experience that you just can't buy a ticket for it. Once again, thank you Omega for such an amazing weekend.
