Baselworld 2017: Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.

Powered by the new Glashütte Original in-house calibre 37-01, the new Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is the latest addition to the many chronographs that our friends from Saxony have released in the past decade. Featuring blue markers and Roman numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock with ultra bright superluminova, this new watch sports a stainless steel case measuring 42 mm in diameter and is available with a leather strap with blue contrast stitching, a black textured rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet.

Things You Need to Know

The black matte dial is really nicely done featuring the signature panorama date aperture at 6 o'clock, 30-minute chrono register at 3 and running seconds with power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock. The superluminova is really the focal point here and it glows bright and long as expected. While the choice of color is not our cup of tea, the overall appearance of this new watch is good. Unfortunately this hue of blue has been over utilized by Bell & Ross and U-Boat that we can't think of any other brand when we see this color combo.

The 42 mm satin brushed and mirror polished case is relatively thick at 14.60 mm and nicely finished with a step bezel construction and a convenient display case back. The pushers are oval and with the typical construction of the pushers utilized by this brand. Perhaps one of the things we dislike the most is the corrector on the case band to adjust the date. Nothing like being able to adjust the date via the crown and keep things simple.

As far as the strap options, these are OK. The calf leather strap is nice and supple with a light blue contrast stitching but the rubber strap is not what you would've expected for this watch. The texture on it is not only a magnet for dust and lint but its pattern doesn't flow well with the design of the watch at all.

The new Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is powered by the new Glashütte Original in-house chrono calibre 37-01 with 65 jewels and column wheel mechanism. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph to provide a power reserve of 70 hours. The movement like all other GO movements is very nicely finished with a three-quarter plate, skeletonized rotor and German stripes throughout.

On the Wrist & Price

On the wrist, the new Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date wears slightly bigger than its actual size and quite nicely. If you like 30-minute chronographs and oversized date apertures, this watch ticks all the boxes giving you a lot of watch for the money. Definitely much better looking on the black calf strap —the rubber strap is included as a second strap.

Sticker Price $14,600 USD on strap and $16,400 USD on bracelet. For more info on Glashütte Original click here.
