Introducing: ArtyA Purity Tourbillon Chameleon. Its Nano-Sapphire Case Changes Colors with Artificial Light.

ArtyA Purity Tourbillon Chameleon

We always hear what the great new color is for every year. Last year, it was green. Before, blue was the new black. This year, ArtyA is turning this notion on its head with a world’s first. For the first time ever, ArtyA brings Nano-Sapphire technology into the watch industry to change the color of the sapphire crystal case itself. The new ArtyA Purity Tourbillon Chameleon features a nano-sapphire crystal case —measuring 46 mm in diameter— that just as its name conveys is a true chameleon. In natural light —even if it’s cloudy—, the case has a deep pink color, but when exposed to artificial light —6500K or above—, the case instantly and completely changes color to a translucent, mysterious green.

This new technology has never been used before and is exclusive to ArtyA, for the Purity Tourbillon Chameleon. Following this incredible technical breakthrough, many other Nano-Sapphire color cases for the ArtyA Purity Chameleon will be presented in 2022 in unique 1-of-1 versions, changing, for example, from red to green, yellow to orange, purple to green, and more. The possibilities are as endless as the colors of the rainbow.

As an independent, self-funded watch company, ArtyA is very proud to be able to present this incredible breakthrough in the very competitive field of high watchmaking. The new ArtyA Nano-Sapphire watch case is an optically transparent polycrystalline material that is formed by the crystallization of glass with a unique chemical composition, and the result is greater physical and chemical properties than the original glass.

This material is one of many glass-ceramic materials, which have been around for more than 50 years and have a wide range of compositions and applications, using a multi-component high temperature composition on the base of two main oxides —SiO2 and Al2O3. These oxides are key components of most natural gemstones. A temperature of 1700-degree Celsius —compared to 700-degree Celsius for glass— is needed to synthesize this material, and only one company in the world has adapted this existing technology to create a material specifically optimized for watches and jewelry. And ArtyA is the first company to use it in a watch case. This new addition to ArtyA’s Complication Collection features a fully transparent case in order to maximize the magic and beauty of the exclusive Manufacture Flying Tourbillon movement.

As an expression of ArtyA’s horological capabilities, the Purity Tourbillon Chameleon displays a technical inventiveness that combines a maverick style with visual clarity. A beautifully balanced architectural ensemble, the manually wound caliber features an oversized flying tourbillon with a diameter of 17 mm, which is at least 50% larger than most tourbillons. Equipped with a power reserve of 70 hours, two barrels connected in parallel drive the movement that operates the central hour and minute functions while the indication of the seconds is elegantly displayed on the flying tourbillon that rotates 360 degrees in 60 seconds.

Sticker Price CHF 150,000 Swiss Francs —approximately $156,000 USD. For more info on ArtyA click here.
