Insider: A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Moonphase with Black Dial. One of the Best Looking Langes for those in Love with Black Dials.

First released in 2016 and endowed with a 40 mm case in either white gold or pink gold, the A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Moonphase now adopts a new look with a black dial available for both models as of the SIHH 2018. A highly precise moonphase display and the characteristic Lange outsize date accentuate the puristic design of this technically and aesthetically compelling automatic watch. Functional, easy to use, and clearly organized, the Saxonia Moon Phase fulfills all of the criteria of a wristwatch that its owners will always enjoy wearing. Equipped with a pusher at 10 o'clock, the date can be rapidly corrected while the moonphase indicator can be set via a small corrector on the caseband.

About the Watch

The black dial enhances the optics of the timepiece with the two classic complications. The moon phase display is decorated with 852 stars and calculated to remain accurate for 122.6 years. The iconic Lange outsize date is another special feature of the model which so far has been available exclusively with a silver colored dial. In this new version, to match the black dial, the date numerals are white on a black background rather than more usual white background. Additionally, the outsize date and the seconds subdial with the integrated moonphase display are centered on the vertical axis, underscoring the sleek elegance of the overall design.

The Movement

Powered by the in-house automatic calibre Lange L086.5 with a large central rotor in 18K yellow gold with a centrifugal mass in platinum, the watch comes with an impressive power reserve of 3 days. Finished by hand to the most exacting standards, a classic screw balance, a freely oscillating Lange balance spring, a three quarter plate made of untreated German silver and a hand-engraved balance cock are among the traditional quality features that connoisseurs around the world associate with the A. Lange & Söhne brand. This exquisitely finished 40-jewel movement is composed of 325 parts and beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the new A. Lange & Söhne  Saxonia Moonphase with black dial wears true to its size but could be perceived as relatively smaller looking than its silvered colored dial siblings, due to its black color. One of the best looking watches from Lange for those in love with black dial timepieces.
