This past weekend May 8-9th, 2021 in Genève, Switzerland, Phillips Watches delivered —yet again— some incredible results at their Geneva Watch Auction XIII where six Patek Philippe watches within a total of 236 lots, fetched over $10.6 Million USD. A Patek Philippe ref. 570 'Calatravone', a Nautilus ref. 5711 in Platinum and Four Different 2499s all collectively broke the $10 million USD mark in another very exciting auction under the reigns of Aurel Bacs, who we like to call ‘King Midas’.

Insider: Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chrono ref. 5990/1R. Hands-On with the New King of All Nautiluses.
Twenty days after its release, we have the pleasure of bringing you our hands-on review of the new Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph ref. 5990/1R. Following the success of the 5990/1A —one of our favorite Nautilus references—, Patek Philippe decided to launch a new iteration of this reference in 18K rose gold. Even though Patek’s stock images blew our socks off and we knew we would love the watch in person, handling this watch in the metal is a totally different story.
W&W 2021: Patek Philippe Calatrava 'Clous de Paris' ref. 6119 in Rose Gold and White Gold
A new design and a new movement for one of Patek Philippe’s most important classics. The famous Calatrava with the guilloched hobnail bezel is one of the most inimitable examples of the typical Patek Philippe style. It now comes in a new version with a decidedly contemporary look, a slightly larger diameter at 39 mm, and a dial with applied hour markers. This sleek, slender, and elegant men’s wristwatch in rose or white gold also has a totally new manually wound Patek Philippe movement with a power reserve of 65 hours.
W&W 2021: Patek Philippe Annual Calendar ref. 4947/1A. First Time in Stainless Steel.
The third notable debut: one of the biggest successes of the manufacture in a totally new version is the new Ref. 4947/1A-001 Annual Calendar. The very first version of this queen among useful complications with a round case in steel and a metal bracelet. Patek Philippe invented the ingenious Annual Calendar mechanism that was patented in 1996. It requires only one manual correction per year and so far has been available in various ladies’ and men’s models in three gold colors and in platinum.

For Watches & Wonders 2021 Patek Philippe introduces a totally new perpetual calendar with an innovative patented one-line display that displays the day, the date, and the month on a single line in an elongated aperture beneath 12 o'clock. This new in-line perpetual calendar premières in an elegant platinum case with a blue dial. As classic grand complications par excellence, perpetual calendars have always been prominently featured in Patek Philippe’s collections.
W&W 2021: Patek Philippe Nautilus Baguette Set Stainless Steel and Olive Green Dial ref. 5711/1300A-001. First Time Patek Pairs Diamonds with Steel.
With the new reference 5711/1300A-001, Patek Philippe introduces an exceptionally remarkable alliance combining stainless steel with baguette-cut diamonds that are usually only paired with precious metal watches. The characteristic shape of the bezel and case is emphasized with a row of 32 flawless Top Wesselton baguette diamonds —approximately 3.6 carats— set to the highest standards of the master jeweler’s art.

Following the announcement that 2021 will be the last production year of the stainless steel Patek Philippe Nautilus model Ref. 5711/1A with blue dial, Patek presents a totally new stainless steel reference with olive green sunburst dial. This new dial will also be available in a version featuring a bezel set with baguette diamonds.
W&W 2021: Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph ref. 5990/1R in Rose Gold
First released in 2014, the Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph ref. 5990 now appears cloaked in 18K rose gold and sporting a gorgeous blue dial. This amazing complication that features a chronograph with the Travel Time function that indicates the time in two different time zones at a single glance is fitted with the traditional Nautilus case now in rose gold measuring 40.5 mm in diameter. This new watch, combines two highly popular complications and features additional functions for enhanced everyday convenience. A new watch that for sure will give the Nautilus Chronograph 5980/1R a run for its money.

Just as scarce as a Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5980R is one of Cuba’s most legendary rums. Less popular outside Cuba than the well-known Havana Club —produced by the same state company Cubaron—, Ron Santiago de Cuba takes its name from its birthplace, Santiago de Cuba a.k.a the cradle of Cuban light rum. Established in 1862 and produced by Cubaron since 1960 when the revolutionary government nationalized the Bacardí and Matusalén factories.

The Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph ref. 5990/1A was released back in 2014 and since then it’s been one of my favorite Nautilus references. It brings the best in design and functionality by combining a Travel Time function that indicates the time in two different time zones with a 60-minute chronograph and a date indicator. With a retail price right under $60K at $59,140 USD, this is another one of those Pateks that has gone out of control in the secondary market.

The Patek Philippe reference 5960 was first released in 2006 in platinum and it instantly won acclaim as it was the brand’s first automatic in-house chronograph. Then in 2014, Patek released the 5960/1A in stainless steel with a silvered dial and everyone had mixed opinions about it —read our hands-on review here—, I personally felt it was a very well-balanced timepiece and a lot of watch for the money to be quite frank.

Continuing the renewal of its Twenty-4 collection, Patek Philippe presents three new expressions to epitomize timeless feminine elegance. The “manchette” or cuff-style models with quartz movements now include a new version in 18K rose gold with a chocolate brown sunburst dial and the Twenty-4 Automatic, in a round case, offers two new models, one in steel adorned with an olive green sunburst dial, the other in 18K rose gold, its dial gilded with a rose gold sunburst.

Rare Bird: Patek Philippe Aquanaut ref. 5065A 'Jumbo'. The History of the First Patek to be Fitted with a Rubber Strap. (Updated)
Released in 1997 as the first Patek Philippe to be fitted with a rubber strap, the Aquanaut 'Jumbo' ref. 5065A is one of the most iconic watches of the 1990s. While the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 'Jumbo' ref. 5065A is not the first luxury watch to be equipped with a natural rubber strap —as MDM Genève Hublot was the first one to do so in 1980—, the Aquanaut quickly gained momentum due to its case size, sporty appearance, and variety of sizes and movements that were offered at the time.
News: Presenting the Patek Philippe Grande Sonnerie ref. 6301P
Patek Philippe reasserts its sovereign mastery of the music of time and enriches its current collection with a wristwatch that combines a grande sonnerie, with a petite sonnerie and a minute repeater. Fully rooted in Geneva’s watchmaking tradition, Patek Philippe began to produce striking watches from the outset. In September 1839, four months after it was founded, the manufacture entered the first timepiece of this kind in its journal, a pocket watch with a repeater. In 1850, entries of pocket watches with a grande sonnerie appeared in the same journals.

The reference 5303 Minute Repeater Tourbillon was first released in 2019 in a limited edition of 12 watches at the “Watch Art Grand Exhibition Singapore 2019”. This particular reference showcases the first Patek Philippe minute repeater that presents the striking mechanism on the dial side with a clear view of the hammers and gongs. From the watch’s technical complexity in a minimal volume —that is, in the smallest possible height and diameter possible— to their elegance and their operability, these complications manifest craftsmanship that truly makes this model a precious work of art and love.
News: Presenting the Patek Philippe 5270 for the First Time in 18K Yellow Gold
As the heir of Patek Philippe’s grand 1941 classic the reference 1518, the Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref. 5270 was originally launched at Baselworld 2011 to replace the iconic Patek reference 5970. Some of the main differences between the ref. 5970 and the ref. 5270 includes a bigger case measuring 41 mm vs. 39 mm on the ref. 5970 and an in-house movement powering the ref. 5270 instead of the Lemania 2310-based CH27 calibre in the ref. 5970.
