Yet another one of those releases from Omega that didn't make much waves at Baselworld 2017 and a watch that you can hardly find any information about it. The new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer is fitted with a platinum case measuring 43 mm in diameter and available in a limited edition of only 57 pieces with a quite hefty price tag. This watch that intends to continue to perpetuate the unsuccessful Aqua Terra collection is not bad looking at all but one that clearly falls short in our book.
Photo Gallery: Omega Speedmaster Apollo 17 45th Anniversary 'Tribute to Gene Cernan' Limited Edition
Earlier this month, we brought you our hands-on review of the new Omega Speedmaster Apollo XVII 45th Anniversary Tribute to Gene Cernan, the eleventh and last person to have walked on the Moon surface and whom passed away on January 16, 2017. Since today is 'Speedy Tuesday' we thought it would be a good idea to bring you this photo gallery with the stainless steel reference available in a limited edition of 1972 pieces.
Insider: Omega Speedmaster Apollo 17 45th Anniversary 'Tribute to Gene Cernan' Limited Edition. Hands-on with a Very Special 18K Gold 'Speedy'.
As a tribute to Gene Cernan, the eleventh and last person to have walked on the Moon surface and whom passed away on January 16, 2017, the new Omega Speedmaster Apollo XVII 45th Anniversary is one of those watches that got very little exposure after its release during Baselworld 2017.
Rare Bird: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Moonphase Aventurine Dial. Not Your Run-of-the-Mill Speedy.
Every once in a while, we run into discontinued references or watches that are just really hard to find and that we like to call 'rare birds'. This time, we are talking about an Omega Speedmaster that captivated everyone when it was launched a few years ago and that is now discontinued and quite hard to find. Since we all know how iconic is the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional —after being part of all six lunar missions—, we'll go straight to what makes this watch so special.
Baselworld 2017: Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer Stainless Steel. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.
Our second most favorite release from Omega at Baselworld 2017 and a watch that is as good as it gets. The new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in stainless steel with a matte black dial with orange accents is as sporty and racing inspired as a chronograph of this nature should be. This new watch is also available in 18K Sedna gold with deep dark blue dial and it was reviewed by us here.
Baselworld 2017: Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer 18K Sedna Gold. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.
One of our favorite releases from Omega at Baselworld 2017 and a watch that sparked our love and interest in the brand after a year and a half without featuring any Omega watches here at WCL is the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in 18K Sedna Gold. Also available in stainless steel with a matte black dial —hands-on live pictures coming up later—, this new Speedmaster Racing with a stunning deep dark blue dial and a case in 18K Sedna Gold is simply gorgeous and one that we must own.
Baselworld 2017: Omega 1957 'Trilogy' 60th Anniversary Limited Editions — Seamaster 300, Railmaster, Speedmaster 1957. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.
One of the biggest releases this year at Baselworld 2017 and one that was quite polarizing is the new Omega Trilogy 60th Anniversary 1957 limited editions. This set of three vintage inspired watches with 'faux-patina' pays tribute to the three most iconic and legendary watches from Omega, all originally released in 1957. These three new watches that include the Seamaster 300, the Aqua Terra Railmaster and the Speedmaster, can be purchased individually —3,557 pieces each— or as a box set in a special limited edition Swiss Oak wooden box containing all three watches and an oily leather travel roll with three additional leather and NATO straps.

Experience: Tourbillon Boutique Chicago. Eight Magnificent Brands in One Luxurious Place on Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile.
As we found ourselves walking down Chicago’s magnificent mile on Michigan Avenue —just north of Wacker Drive and a few buildings away from the iconic Gothic Chicago Tribune tower— enjoying a rare sunny day, we stumbled upon one of the most magnificent watch boutiques in the city. The boutique is located on Michigan Avenue close to the corner with Ohio street. Trust us, you just can’t miss the Swiss flag flanked by the U.S. flags blowing in the wind.
Tourbillon is a group of watch boutiques launched by the Swatch Group —the largest watch brand holding in the world— a few years ago and is composed of 22 boutiques in some of the most upscale locations and fascinating cities in the world including New York, Moscow, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills, Geneva, Lugano, St. Petersburg, San Francisco, Seattle, South Coast, Short Hills and St. Barth amongst others.
Chicago’s Tourbillon boutique is a relatively new boutique that opened its doors in December 2012 and in just a few months, has now become a must-visit landmark for watchlifestylers living in Chicago or just visiting. In this boutique, you will find an impressive inventory from Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, Leon Hatot, Omega, Swatch and Tiffany & Co. Come experience this luxurious and elegant boutique —with one of the most fascinating timepiece
As you head into this fantastic boutique, you will first be greeted by two amazing areas for Breguet and Omega that are almost like mini-boutiques within the boutique. As you walk in, you can’t miss Omega’s Baselworld 2013 novelties that are eye-catching. The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet is there with its blue and orange ceramic bezel that would be a perfect fit to match that Chicago Bears jersey that you’ve been wearing since 1985. Now that you’ve finally seen it in person, you like it even more.
As you turn around to continue to walk through the boutique, you can’t miss Breguet’s corner —classy, inspiring and full of 'haute horlogerie' creations. These creations are a living tribute to one of the greatest watchmakers of all time, Abraham-Louis Breguet —the creator of the tourbillon around 1795. As you walk around admiring the displays, you notice the book that is standing in between them and you take a closer look. You are surrounded by masterpieces, some of the most fascinating complications like the Tourbillon, the 'La Musicale' masterpiece, the Classique Grande Complication and even some of the cufflinks in their collection. You then ask one of the friendly, savvy employees to pull out the Classique Grande Complication ref. 5447 in white gold for you to peruse. With it’s grandeur and hand carved 'guilloché' dial, you are just left in awe. The display case back allows for full view of one of the most fascinating and intricately decorated calibres you’ve ever seen in person. Pure perfection right in front of your eyes.
Your next stop is at the Blancpain area —right behind Breguet— where you help yourself to a delicious Lindt chocolate. Savor the chocolate as much as you are savoring this watch shopping experience. You have been in the boutique for fifteen minutes and yet you just don’t want to leave.
Every display and every timepiece you peruse transports you to the 'Vallée de Joux' where these timepieces are carefully handcrafted. As you check out Blancpain’s displays, you notice that almost every reference from the Fifty Fathoms collection is available including the coveted No Radiations Limited Edition watch.
While you are sitting in the ultra comfortable white leather chairs, you are informed that they have one of the rare and very limited Blancpain Chinese Calendar timepieces in stock. You need to see that masterpiece of horology and if it winks at you, you know you’ll have to get if before someone else does.
After drooling over the fascinating Blancpain Chinese Calendar, you hold your breath and decide to think about it as there are still more watches you want to see. As you keep walking towards the back, the Jaquet Droz and Leon Hatot —exclusively available at the Tourbillon boutiques— displays catch your eye. While you admire the beautiful white orchids that flank the Leon Hatot displays, you think about your significant other and what she might like for you to bring back home for her —a piece of jewelry or perhaps a Jaquet Droz Ivory Enamel watch.
As you reach the end of the store, the journey is almost over, but Glasshütte Original, Swatch and Tiffany & Co. are there to get your attention before you make your final buying decisions. As you look around Glashütte Original, you notice the new Senator Panorama Date presented at Baselworld 2013. You’ve been wanting to see this watch in person since the end of April and now looks like it might be time to get it. At the same time, you check the lovely PanoDate PanoReserve.
Finally you’ve made up your mind and today you will be walking out with more than one watch. The friendly staff walks you upstairs to the private lounge area where you sit down and relax in the comfortable and beautiful brown Le Corbusier chairs as you sip down an espresso and savor another Lindt chocolate.
As you are getting ready to leave with your purchases, you take one more look at the fascinating space of the boutique and you give the Blancpain area one last look. Should you also buy that Fifty Fathoms No Radiations Limited Edition before it’s gone? As you leave the boutique fully satisfied with your new purchases, you look back at the tourbillon logo on the door handles and wonder when the new Glashütte Original Pavonina will be in so you can buy it for your significant other.

This over-sized pavilion with displays on the front, sides and back, unveiled seven new models this week. Some of them quite fascinating.
The new line-up includes the Constellation Sedna made of a completely new alloy blending gold, copper and palladium—considered 18K rose gold as it includes a minimum gold content of 75%—, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Good Planet which is a tribute to the Good Planet Foundation—with GMT functions, blue dial and blue and orange bezel—, the anti-magnetic Aqua Terra 15000 Gauss, the Aqua Terra Day-Date, the Speedmaster Black Ceramic, the Speedmaster '57 Co-Axial Chronograph and the De Ville Ladymatic Bicolour. Insider: Seamaster Planet Ocean ref. 2200.51 XL. A Beast of a Diver Watch.
The Seamaster Planet Ocean is a watch with a very long tradition and history. Omega presented the Marine—the world's first watch designed for divers in 1932. The first Seamaster was launched back in 1948, further confirming Omega's position among sailors and divers as the tough and reliable watch of choice. The Planet Ocean still maintains that essence.
The Planet Ocean comes in two different case sizes, the 42mm and the 45.5mm a.k.a XL. There are also two dial variants and two bezel insert configurations of this reference. The white numerals dial is only available with a black bezel insert and the orange numerals dial is available with orange or black bezel insert.
The Planet Ocean XL is a beast of a watch, weighing approximately 215 grams —close to half a pound. The case is massive and very well constructed with polished and brushed areas. The watch is fitted with a double-coated anti-reflective domed sapphire crystal, a screw down crown and a Helium release crown at 10 o'clock for decompression chambers. This watch is top heavy but still very comfortable.
The dial is a matte finish dial with raised indices with very powerful super luminova that after being fully charged will glow for a good 8-10 hours in the dark. Reading the time at night while you are in bed is quite easy and very functional. We woke up this morning at 5:45am and it was still glowing.
The bracelet is very comfortable and fitted with a diver's extension in case you need to wear the watch over a wet suit. The depth rating on this watch is 600m/2000ft. The movement inside the Planet Ocean ref. 2200 is the Co-Axial Calibre 2500. In the case of the watch reviewed we are looking at a 2500D, which is the second generation of this caliber. The biggest tell-tale is the different font in the calendar disc, especially on the ones, fours and twos.
After almost four months wearing this watch on an every day basis, we can attest that is probably one of the most accurate watches we've ever owned with a variance of +/-0.3 seconds/day. Additionally, the massive case and solid construction has made this watch one of our favorite daily beaters.
