Rolex GMT Master II BLNR 'Batman' ref. 116710BLNR. Hands-on with One of the Hottest Rolex Watches on Instagram.

In preparation for Baselworld 2017, today we are going to talk about one of the hottest Rolexes on Instagram with more than 30,000 posts. Released during Baselworld 2013, the Rolex GMT Master II BLNR a.k.a 'Batman' ref. 116710BLNR was the first attempt by Rolex to release a bi-color cerachrom bezel in their lineup. Today, almost four years later, the GMT Master BLNR has turned into an icon and a watch that is quite hard to get as the supply by Rolex is always somewhat limited.

Rolex is one of the few luxury brands out there that has mainly focused in offering time only or time/date watches through their history with the exception of the Daytona which is a chronograph and the GMT Master II and Explorer II dual time zone watches. Along with the triple calendars and triple calendars with chronograph released during the late 40s and through the very early 60s, this is in reality the very first modern Rolex complication.

The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King ref. 116900 was without a doubt, one of the most surprising releases by the 'Green Giant' during Baselworld 2016 earlier this year. Along with the new Daytona with Cerachrom bezel ref. 116500LN we featured here, the new Rolex Air-King ref. 116900 was the other watch at the Rolex booth that took most of the attention from journalists, retailers and collectors.

Last month, we published our hands-on review of the Rolex Explorer II ref. 216570 White dial a.k.a Polar here, after a long hiatus from publishing any Rolex related content. While our interest in Rolex timepieces diminished as their watches became a little more flashier and less 'toolish', the Rolex Submariner Date ref. 116610LV a.k.a 'The Hulk' is yet another one of those pieces that has something special that made us gravitate back into the brand.

Released less than three months ago —on March 16, 2016— at Baselworld 2016 as we reported here, the new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with Cerachrom bezel ref. 116500LN quickly started to arrive at the Rolex authorized dealers throughout the U.S. Just within days from its arrival, the frenzy caused by collectors trying to get their hands on this new watch, is already pushing its price outside the ADs as high as $22,000 USD —that's close to 70% above retail. Clearly one of those situations were supply and demand are dictating the final value of the watch.

Setting a new world record for any Rolex GMT Master ever sold at auction, this rare Rolex GMT Master ref. 6542 in 18K yellow gold sold for CHF 341,000 Swiss Francs —including Buyer's premium—, approximately $350,000 USD. Not only this watch is one of the most well preserved and most complete sets out there, but it also features a very unique bronze hue dial.

One of the main highlights of the Start-Stop-Reset Phillips watchauction was lot number 88, an ultra rare Rolex Daytona ref. 6239 nicknamed 'The Doctor' with pulsations dial. This watch, expected to surpass its original estimate of CHF 350,000-700,000 Swiss Francs, just sold for 900,000 Swiss Francs at the Phillips Watch Auction that took place at the Hotel La Réserve in Geneva on May 14, 2016.

It's been a long time since we've done a hands-on review of a Rolex timepiece. While we've never been big fans of the Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller ref. 116660 since its launch several years ago, we've always liked the looks of the D-Blue dial version a.k.a. James Cameron that came out in August of 2014. A watch that doesn't fly under the radar due to its crazy thick case construction —17.7 mm thick—, this ultra-resistant diver's watch was engineered by Rolex to conquest the deep.

Today, we are reporting live from Baselworld 2016 and Rolex is introducing a new Oyster Perpetual Air-King, a watch that perpetuates the aeronautical heritage of the original Rolex Oyster. The new Air-King, with a 40 mm case in 904L steel, features a distinctive black dial with a combination of large 3, 6 and 9 numerals marking the hours and a prominent minute scale for navigational time readings.

Yesterday November 8th, 2015 in Geneva at the Phillips Watches Auction Number Two in partnership with Bacs & Russo, the Rolex Submariner ref. 5513 worn by Sir Roger Moore as James Bond, sold for $365,000 USD. The most recognizable watch in history with 1 billion people having watched the film “Live and Let Die”, the wristwatch worn on the wrist of Sir Roger Moore as James Bond is in fact a Rolex Submariner reference 5513 made in 1972, and was later modified for the movie. The present Rolex reference 5513 “Q” is the most unforgettable watch prop used in a movie and is even signed inside the caseback “Roger Moore 007”. As a highlight in the most iconic scenes of “Live and Let Die”, this watch is sure to interest both watch collectors and true fans of cinematography alike.
