News: Introducing the Richard Mille RM 26-02 Tourbillon Evil Eye. A $575,000 USD Watch in a 25-Piece Limited Edition.

The concept of the Evil Eye, also known as Ayin Harsha in Arabic, Mauvais OEil in French, Dhristi in Hindu and Ayin Ha’ra in Hebrew, is recorded in every culture from early history. This universal symbol of foreboding summons suffering and misfortune to whoever is exposed to its power. The Evil Eye knows no bounds except those imposed on it by various protective talismans, such as the Eye of Horus amulet, the Jewish red string or the Irish four leaf clover, to name just a few. Today, a new talisman to protect against these negative energies in the 21st century has been developed by a visionary of contemporary watchmaking. Nonconformist by nature, Richard Mille seized on this imagery as inspiration for the new Richard Mille RM 26-02 Tourbillon Evil Eye just unveiled at Watches & Wonder 2015 in Hong Kong. In the same way as he did when creating the earlier RM 052 skull timepiece —recalling the spirit of Memento Mori— with its remembrance of our personal mortality, both of these technical masterpieces, born in the Swiss Jura, go far beyond the norm to bring timekeeping to inspirational and intriguing levels of expression.

News: Introducing the Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire'. 88-Piece Limited Edition for the Americas.

Introducing the new Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire'. This new watch is available in a 88-piece limited edition exclusively available in the Americas. Fire glows brightest in the darkest of night. Richard Mille’s new limited edition version of the RM 011 Automatic Flyback Chronograph, “Midnight Fire,” employs high-tech materials to capture the deepest black of the night’s darkest hour, and ignites it with fiery red details. Black TZP ceramic is extremely resistant to scratches while not being brittle. For the RM 011 Midnight Fire, the material is blasted to provide a matte finish, then formed into the front and back bezels of the timepiece’s tripartite case. The center caseband of the Midnight Fire is crafted from NTPT —North Thin Ply Technology — carbon. Already used in the fields of aerospace technology, the manufacture of racing sales, and Formula 1 racecar design, NTPT carbon is incredibly strong and light, and composed of multiple layers of parallel filaments obtained by dividing carbon fibers.

News: Richard Mille Donates the Rafael Nadal RM 27-01 Tourbillon Prototype to ONLY Watch Auction.

For the 6th edition of the ONLY Watch auction, Richard Mille and Rafael Nadal are partnering up once again to donate the RM 27-02 tourbillon prototype for the auction taking place in Geneva on November 7th, 2015. This unique piece has accompanied “Rafa” to all the biggest Grand Slam tournaments, from the French and U.S. Opens all the way to Wimbledon. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to research against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. With the Rafael Nadal RM 27-02 tourbillon prototype, the Swiss brand unveiled the very first skeletonized baseplate to be known as “unibody”. Inspired by the bodywork of racecars and machined from NTPT carbon, this construction increases rigidity and shock-resistance, and seamlessly fuses the case middle and the baseplate, eliminating the need to join the two components together.

News: Introducing the Richard Mille RM 69 Erotic Tourbillon. The Classiest and Most Tasteful Erotic Timepiece Out There.

Today, we present you the new Richard Mille RM 69 Erotic Tourbillon. Its name is a clear affirmation of the creative longing to reveal our most secret intentions in all their glory. Playfully and tastefully interpreted, this fine watchmaking creation will delight and amuse its owners, teasingly displaying phrases that evoke desired pleasure without being as graphic as other erotic timepieces out there like the Ulysse Nardin Hourstriker Erotica Jarretière we featured here. Erotic timepieces are an important part of watchmaking history since Jaquet Droz was around. Because they broke with conservative moral, religious and political customs, these objects were often banned and confiscated. But like all forbidden love, their pleasure was enjoyed away from prying eyes. Thus by concealing the complications at the heart of watches in question, certain models have survived to this day.

Nothing beats doing hands-on reviews on Richard Mille timepieces. There's something about holding a Richard Mille watch and feeling that special vibe from it. The Richard Mille RM055 White Drive —exclusively available in North and South America— comes fitted with a fully black rubberized grade-5 titanium case, a black ceramic bezel and a very distinctive white flange. As a side note, all of the previous watches created with Bubba Watson feature stark white cases, bezels and straps. Experience: Porsche 991 Carrera S in the Company of a Richard Mille RM015 Le Mans Classic in Red Gold.

Here's one of the most fascinating watch-car combos we've featured in a while —a Richard Mille RM015 Le Mans Classic in red gold in the company of a gorgeous Porsche 991 Carrera S with Carrera Red interiors.

'991' is the internal designation —also the number used by serious Porsche enthusiasts— for the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show as the replacement for the '997'.

This silver 'beast' is fitted with a horizontally opposed six-cylinder 3.8 liter rear engine that delivers 400 hp that can go from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. A 'beast' of a car in all senses of the word.

This particular car in GT Silver Metallic color comes with 20-inch Carrera S wheels, a Carrera Red leather interior, a PDK transmission and the sport chrono package. The interior is really gorgeous, spacious and very comfortable. It is a joy to drive this beauty every day.

The Porsche '991' comes with some major improvements when compared to the previous generation '997'. There's a clear enhancement on the quality of the equipment and the overall look of the interior which happens to be roomier than the one in the '997'. While the rear passenger/luggage space is also less tight in the new model, it still really can't fit anyone taller than five feet —only a perfect fit for Santa Claus' elves. Overall, the most visible improvement is the level of refinement and how posh the interior now looks.

While the '991' is not that much faster than its predecessor, it feels faster as it is lighter. Another great improvement is that the level of noise coming into the cabin from the rear tires has been reduced and now the interior sound level is perfect. Additionally, the '991' comes with a standard sport exhaust button that is linked to an acoustic tuner which brings the characteristic flat-six exhaust note into the rear of the cabin.

If you are ready to pay a Sticker Price of $126,440 USD for a Porsche just like the one we have here, make sure you wear that Richard Mille that's been sitting in the safe for months on the day you go pick it up at the dealership.

SIHH 2015: Introducing the New Richard Mille RM 51-02 Tourbillon Diamond Twister. Live Pictures and Pricing.

Here we are now presenting you the second and last novelty presented by Richard Mille this year at the SIHH 2015 in Geneva. The new Richard Mille RM 51-02 Tourbillon Diamond Twister is a high jewelry tourbillon that takes all of its cues from the swirling form of a spiral comprised of diamonds emanating outwards the tourbillon in 14 rays as a spiral vortex like that of the milky way, paying homage to the meaning of the word 'tourbillon' in English that stands for 'whirlwind'. Each spiral ray of the new Richard Mille RM 51-02 Tourbillon Diamond Twister is perfectly set with flawless diamonds and black sapphires around the case. Fitted with the classic tripartite tonneau-shaped Richard Mille case in 18K white gold measuring 47.95 mm L x 39.70 mm W x 12.60 mm T, the bezel side and the case back had to be perfectly assembled around the middle case to prevent any damage to the black sapphires. The dial made of 18K white gold, features 270 diamonds in its twister and hour/minutes hands with luminescent tips.

Video: SIHH 2015 Richard Mille RM 19-02 Tourbillon Fleur. A $1.09 Million USD Timepiece.

On the lower left of the dial, the Richard Mille RM19-02 Tourbillon 'Fleur' incorporates a magnolia wrapped around a flying tourbillon with its five delicate petals. Equipped with a true automaton, the magnolia opens its petals every five minutes —or on demand thanks to a pusher located at 9 o'clock— in a delicate kinetic ballet.

SIHH 2015: Introducing the New Richard Mille RM 19-02 Tourbillon Fleur. Live Pictures of a $1.09 Million USD Timepiece.

This year at the SIHH 2015 in Geneva, for Richard Mille it was all about the ladies. Richard Mille presented two novelties geared towards ladies and one of them is the Richard Mille RM19-02 Tourbillon 'Fleur' —flower. It was amazing to be able to work on this hands-on review of such an important timepiece. The Tourbillon 'Fleur' is fitted with a robust case in 18K white gold measuring 45.4 L x 38.3 W x 12.55 T, and because of its dimensions this is a watch that could also be worn by a man. The Tourbillon 'Fleur' is available in two different cases. One with a case fully set with micropavé diamonds —as featured on this post— and the other in a red gold case with no diamonds at all.

Now, this new Richard Mille RM19-02 is not your average Richard Mille watch. Its dial, holds a precious surprise in lacquer. For the creation of this timepiece a special flower was chosen, the Magnolia. It was chosen as its existence marks millions of years on earth even before bees were around.

Not long ago we reviewed and photographed one of Richard Mille's latest creations, the RM052-01. The Richard Mille RM052-01 takes its inspiration from a previous model, the RM052. Opposed to its predecessor, the RM052-01 features a TZP ceramic bezel and case back with a middle case of carbon nano-tubes —measuring 42.70mm in width, 50mm in length and 15.95mm in thickness— and a solid red gold skull on the dial that includes a tourbillon strategically located inside its jaws.

This watch featuring the newest material in the Richard Mille line-up has the most fascinating finish that we've ever seen on any other ceramic composite watch due to its unique grain —product of the 95% yttrium-stabilized zirconium used in its production.

News: Richard Mille RM38-01 Tourbillon G-Sensor Bubba Watson. Limited Edition of 50 Pieces.

After the success of the Richard Mille Limited Edition RM 038 Golfer’s Tourbillon released in 2011, Richard Mille has undertaken the development of yet another specific tourbillon watch for Bubba Watson with added functionality to complement his powerful drives on the course. The result is the RM 38-01 Tourbillon G-Sensor Bubba Watson, a timepiece that combines a patented G-sensor with a tourbillon mechanism, thus providing new insights for golfers during their game. The mechanical G-sensor, a Richard Mille world first containing more than 50 moving parts within a mere 17mm, allows the user to see the accumulated motion of their swing in G’s. The sensor, placed under 12 o’clock, is able to record the force generated by a golfer’s swing, specifically during the last segment. Now, this new watch is not the watch that Bubba Watson was wearing while playing The Masters this weekend and while winning his second green jacket at this tournament. Instead, Bubba was wearing the Richard Mille RM038 released in 2011.

In reality this means that the RM 38-01 can record up to 20-G’s of acceleration, a very important insight for golfers such as Bubba Watson, renowned for his ability to hit a ball at more than 310 kilometers per hour. Resetting the sensor back to zero for the following swing is done by simply pressing the aerodynamically formed pusher at 9:00 once.

The G-sensor mechanism is integrated into the heart of a manual winding tourbillon movement calibre RM38-01 which provides a 48-hour power reserve when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph. The movement is a technological marvel with its highly skeletonized, asymmetrical flying bridges and plates machined from grade 5 titanium with PVD treatment. The display case back allows for full view of the movement that almost resembles the grooves on the sweet spot of a golf clubface.

On looking at the RM 38-01 Bubba Watson, one’s attention is immediately drawn to the unique green case —Bubba’s favorite color— which upon closer examination again demonstrates the mastery and insight of Richard Mille in the revolutionary application of industrial materials for 21st century watchmaking. Additionally, the watch also features a crown cap with the unmistakeable dimples and glossy finish of a golf ball.

The front and back bezels of the tripartite case measuring 42.70 x 49.94 x 16.15 mm are created in TZP-G, a ceramic class of material based on microscopic tubes of alumina oxide powder injected with green colorant at a pressure of 2,000 bars. This is followed by a long and difficult machining and grinding process with diamond tooling in order to obtain the exact complex curves and arcs typical of Richard Mille’s designs. The result is a material that offers 20-30% more stiffness in comparison to traditional ceramics. These qualities make this the ideal material for a bezel that is commonly highly exposed to impact. In the last stage, the material is then delicately worked in order to create an attractive matte surface finish and further complemented with a central caseband in grade 5 titanium molded with white rubber, thus providing comfort and lightness for the user under all conditions. The tripartite case is water resistant to 50 meters, ensured by two Nitril O-ring seals and it is assembled using 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant washers in 316L stainless steel.

Released in an edition of 50 pieces worldwide, the RM 38-01 Tourbillon G-sensor Bubba Watson provides all golfers with new insights about the strength of their swing and thus allows them to better adapt the power of their technique accordingly to the playing requirements of each course they compete on. It represents the perfect synthesis of haute horlogerie with 21st century innovation, comfort and usefulness for today’s golf enthusiasts worldwide.

Insider: Richard Mille RM 60-01 Flyback Chronograph Regatta. A Technical Watch for Navigating the Seven Seas.

With the RM 60-01 Regatta Flyback Chronograph, Richard Mille presents his first technical watch for navigating the seven seas. Powered by the grade 5 titanium RMAC2 caliber with its 55 hours of power reserve, variable inertia balance, complete flyback chronograph functions, annual calendar with oversize date and UTC function, the RM 60-01 adds navigational capabilities thanks to its special rotating bezel with indications of the four cardinal points combined with a graduated 360° and a 24-hour scale disk.

The massive titanium grade 5 case measuring 50 mm in diameter and 16.33 mm in thickness, features a unique four-part structure. The system is completed by the incorporation of horns in the case assembly. The four-part case of the RM 60-01 is very difficult to make. After a turning operation lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes, no less than 800 milling operations are required, taking several hours. Machining demands nearly 11 hours of separate operations. It is followed by a meticulous quality control procedure that takes a full day for each case. The 3 pushers, their components and the crown of the RM 60-01 require 10 days of machining, during which they undergo numerous tests for water-resistance and quality control, followed by the manual brushing and polishing of the entire case. All of these stages are vital in producing the characteristic ergonomic quality of Richard Mille watches.

Using the RM 60-01 is based on two factors: knowledge of local time and the position of the sun. To calculate one’s location, the UTC indicator is directed towards the sun using the UTC pusher located at 9 o’clock and then the bezel is turned so that that the UTC hand lines up with the actual local time engraved on the bezel’s circumference.

When set in this manner, the compass headings North, South, East and West on the bezel will be correctly aligned with the actual direction on the Earth’s surface. What differentiates the RM 60-01 form other similar types of watches is its ability to orientate within the northern as well as southern hemispheres without any additional calculations. As an additional safety precaution, the chronograph pushers have a special quick locking and releasing mechanism. Locking —red arrow— and unlocking —green arrow— the flyback chronograph pushers requires only a quick turn of the secondary crown, thus avoiding possible accidental changes of the chronograph readout.

The beating heart inside this new timepiece presented at the SIHH 2014, is the Richard Mille Calibre RMAC2 automatic movement with hours, minutes, running seconds at 3 o’clock, oversize date, month, annual calendar, Flyback chronograph with central seconds counter, and 30 minute countdown timer at 9 o’clock, 24 hour totalizer at 6 o’clock, UTC function and adjustable rotor geometry. When fully wound the calibre provides a power reserve of 50 hours. The components of the movement are in grade 5 titanium with black PVD coating and the movement features 62 jewels, an Elinvar balance spring and Rubifix transparent escapement wheel jewels. As usual, the beautiful calibre is fully visible via the display case back.
