Introducing: Vacheron Constantin Grand Lady Kalla. A Stunning Trio of High Jewellery Timepieces.

Vacheron Constantin unveils three spectacular new versions of the Grand Lady Kalla, marking an exciting evolution in the High Jewellery watch collection that has developed over forty-plus years since the legendary Kallista debuted in 1979. Building upon the original Grand Lady Kalla design launched in 2024, these new creations incorporate colored precious stones for the first time. White diamonds combine with emeralds in 950 platinum settings, while ruby and sapphire versions feature 18K white gold. Complementing these precious gems are lustrous white Akoya pearls and smoothly polished ornamental stone beads.

Addressing contemporary women's preference for adaptable jewellery suitable for multiple occasions, Grand Lady Kalla's modular components enable four distinct wearing styles, accommodating various preferences and events. Each creation consists of four fully gem-encrusted components—a watch, a decorative jewel element, a three-strand rivière bracelet, and an elongated sautoir necklace—all interchangeable to create four distinct wearing options.

Attaching the watch to the sautoir recalls the graceful customs of the late 1800s and early 1900s, when women commonly wore pendant watches and checked the time by delicately raising the sautoir with their fingers. On either the sautoir or bracelet, the watch can be swapped with the jewel piece instantly using concealed locking mechanisms requiring no tools. Grand Lady Kalla arrives in a refined presentation box with a custom-designed document holder containing an original designer's gouache illustration and authentication certificate.

A Rich Heritage of Jewelled Timepieces

From its earliest days, Vacheron Constantin has cultivated a meaningful relationship with women, producing exquisite timepieces adorned with precious gems, enamel work, guilloché, and intricate engraving. The Maison's private collection includes a remarkable gem-decorated ladies' watch from 1812. Another notable piece from 1924 features multicolored gemstones and can be worn as a pendant or a brooch. During the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras, Vacheron Constantin experienced exceptional creative flourishing in jewellery watchmaking, continuously adapting its aesthetic vision in response to evolving social and cultural landscapes throughout the 20th and into the 21st centuries.

The year 1979 marked a pivotal moment for Vacheron Constantin, when it introduced the unique Kallista. Raymond Moretti's groundbreaking design combined a rivière bracelet with an 18K gold case weighing 140 grams, expertly carved from a single gold ingot. This extraordinary piece featured 130 carats of diamonds. The following year brought Lady Kalla, crafted from 18K yellow gold and adorned with 108 emerald-cut diamonds totaling approximately 30 carats. This sparked a succession of 'Kalla' interpretations: Miss Kalla, Queen Kalla, Lord Kalla, King Kalla, Duchesse Kalla, and others.

In 2001, a Lady Kalla featuring a satin strap and a case carved from solid 18K white gold earned the Jewellery Watch award at the inaugural Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. Commemorating Lady Kalla's 30th anniversary in 2010, the Maison introduced Lady Kalla Flame, showcasing the signature Flame cut—an innovation developed by Vacheron Constantin and officially registered with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). The 2024 debut of Grand Lady Kalla—featuring a sophisticated monochrome palette of diamonds, white Akoya pearls, and black onyx—brought revolutionary design to the continuously expanding 'kallista' High Jewellery watch series, breaking creative ground with its watch-and-tassel sautoir combination, wearable in four configurations.

Three Stunning New Interpretations of Time

Grand Lady Kalla evokes strong Art Deco influences through the geometric lines of its bracelet, watch, and jewel components, contrasted with the flowing elegance of the sautoir. Each of the three models contains 39.4 carats of diamonds across four interchangeable pieces.

The three-strand rivière bracelet features 103 diamonds with a central row of eight colored precious stones—sapphires, rubies, or emeralds. The jewel component showcases 12 diamonds surrounding a prominent central stone. All colored gemstones carry SSEF certification from the Swiss Foundation for the Research of Gemstones. Both the watch and jewel piece integrate flawlessly onto either the bracelet or sautoir.

The 85-centimeter sautoir artfully blends 112 Akoya pearls—selected for their exceptional luster and radiance—with polished precious and ornamental stone beads. The extended necklace concludes with a pearl tassel and a polished precious stone bead.

The sugarloaf cut of the jewel piece's central stone accentuates the gem's natural beauty in a different way. This smooth, dome-shaped cut derives its name from the conical form in which refined sugar was traditionally packaged until the late 1800s. With roots in antiquity and rare in contemporary jewellery, it represents a variation of the classic rounded cabochon, featuring four polished sides converging to a gentle point. Executing a sugarloaf cut demands exceptional expertise and accuracy to maintain the gem's inherent shape and beauty while achieving smooth, symmetrical surfaces. The cut's scarcity increases its appeal.

The impression of continuous gemstone coverage is amplified by the claw-setting technique for emerald-cut stones, maximizing light transmission while minimizing visible metal. Upon closer examination, a remarkable detail emerges, nearly imperceptible: each claw resembles a branch of the Maltese Cross, Vacheron Constantin's iconic emblem, so where four stones converge, a complete cross forms. Additionally, the sophisticated clasps, fastenings, and time-setting crown remain entirely concealed beneath the stones.

All three watches are powered by the Vacheron Constantin Quartz calibre 1212, composed of 85 parts and 6 jewels. The Sapphire and Ruby references—1208J/118G-H131 and 1208J/118G-H130 respectively—are cased in 18K white gold, while the Emerald reference 1208J/118P-H129 is cased in platinum. The watch cases measure 4 mm x 30.1 mm x 8.3 mm thick, and the jewel piece 8 mm x 30.1 mm x 8.3 mm thick.
