Insider: Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Green Dial PAM 736. One of the Best 47 mm Radiomirs Ever Released.

With a very distinctive green dial in a hue that sits in between the green of the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Bronzo PAM 382 and the green of the Panerai Luminor Marina Harrods Limited Edition PAM 693, the just released Panerai Radiomir 1940 PAM 736 brings another breathe of vintage air to the Radiomir 1940 collection. Fitted with a highly polished 47 mm stainless steel cushion-shaped case, this is by far one of the best Radiomir 1940s ever released by the brand.

The Dial

Fitted with a matte green sandwich dial with 'ecru' superluminova and the 12-6 Arabic numeral layout, the new Panerai Radiomir 1940 PAM 736 features a date aperture at 3 o'clock and a running seconds indicator at 9 o'clock. The green dial comes in a hue that is much darker than the hue of the dial on the Bronzo PAM 382 and right in between a British racing green and an olive green. Now, depending on lighting conditions, the hue of the dial varies a lot as you can see in the pictures below.

Equipped with gold hands that perfectly match the vintage inspired superluminova, the 'Radiomir Panerai' writing —also in the same color as the superluminova— at 12 o'clock is imprinted rather than engraved on the dial as it is on the Radiomir 1940 PAM 662 or the Radiomir 1940 PAM 587.

The Strap & Box

To look even more vintage, the new Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Green Dial PAM 736 is delivered on a sturdy calf Ponte Vecchio dark brown strap with beige contrast stitching. One thing we do have to point out, is that the strap comes with our least favorite Panerai buckle, the thumb pin buckle. For this special edition, the watch is presented in a lustrous dark green wooden box instead of the traditional pear wood light brown box.

The Movement

Powering the new Radiomir 1940 PAM 736 is the in-house Panerai calibre P.3000. This manual wound movement with a power reserve of 3 days is fully designed and developed by Panerai at its Neuchâtel Manufacture. Composed of 160 parts, 21 jewels and two barrels, the movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph.

Unlike the more recent iterations of calibre P.3000, the movement in the PAM 736 still features two bridges opposed to three. One great thing about this movement is that the crown allows for independent setting of the hour hand and the date can be adjusted forward or backward just like on the GMT Panerais. Regardless of its display case back, the watch is water resistant to 100 meters thanks to its screw-down crown.

On the Wrist & Pricing

Wearing true to its size, the Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days PAM 736 with green dial is a stunner. With its rugged brown ponte vecchio strap and its gold hands, this is the type of watch that looks like you just came from a different era or you inherited the watch from a former Italian Navy commando member.

A perfect timepiece that would look as good in the Serengeti as it would while visiting the pyramids of Giza. The new Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days PAM 736 is available in a limited edition of 300 pieces only. For the money, it really doesn't get much better.
