Insider: New Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ultra-Fine 1955 Platinum. Hands-on with One of the Thinnest Manual Wound Watches in the World.

Previously only available in 18K 4N pink gold, the new Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ultra-Fine 1955 makes its appearance in 950 platinum. Testifying to Vacheron Constantin’s ancestral expertise in the making of ultra-thin watches, the new Historiques Ultra-Fine 1955 ref. 33155/000P-B169 stays true to its lineage with an ultra-thin case construction and powered by the same calibre that made its first appearance 61 years ago, during the golden era of watchmaking. The new Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ultra-Fine 1955 Platinum is that perfect understated watch that transports you back in time as soon as you hold it or strap it on your wrist. An horological masterpiece and a symphony of elegance and refinement.

The Case

This elegant timepiece accommodates its legendary movement inside a round platinum case with a diameter of 36 mm and only 4.13 mm thick. The case, is highly polished throughout making this watch ultra elegant and perfectly suited for black tie gala affairs. Its ultra-thin case is actually slightly thinner than the thickness of holding two quarter coins together. The case is rounded out by a very slender bezel and sharp wolf-fang shaped lugs. The case that is water resistant to 30 meters.

The Dial

Fitted with a silvered opaline dial with dark blue painted hour markers and a silvered Maltese cross at 12 o'clock, the hour and minute hands feature a minimalist style bearing white gold baton-type hands. The simple uncluttered dial is easy to read and simply timeless. The dark blue hour markers appear almost black at certain angles; however, it just takes a slight movement of the wrist to reveal their true blue essence at the right angle and under the perfect light. Since the Maltese cross right above the 'Vacheron Constantin' writing is silver colored, depending on the lighting conditions there are times were it almost disappears from the dial in a very discreet way.

The Movement

Powering the new Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ultra-Fine 1955 in Platinum is the Vacheron Constantin calibre 1003. This micro-mechanical masterpiece composed of 117 parts and 18 jewels, measures a mere 1.64 mm in thickness —actually thinner than the legendary Piaget manual wound Calibre 9P with a thickness of 2 mm.

Fitted with a display case back, the gorgeous manual wound movement is fully visible with its 18K gold bridges and mainplate —just like F.P. Journe does its movements— adorned with exceptional hand finishes including 'Côtes de Genève' and beveled edges. This elegant and timeless looking watch, features a 31-hour power reserve while beating at a frequency of 18,000 vph —2.5 Hz.

On the Wrist & Pricing
