Breaking News: RIP Pelé. Two Hublot Classic Fusion Chronographs Honor his Legacy.

Today, December 29, 2022, the world has lost the greatest ‘Fútbol’ player that has ever lived. Brazilian player Edson Arantes do Nascimento known mononymous as Pelé has passed at the age of 82 and leaves this world as the only player able to win three FIFA World Cups. R.I.P. to ‘O Rei Pelé’ —the King Pelé.

Since Hublot has always been involved with the world of soccer, today, after hearing the news about the passing of Pelé, we thought it would be a good idea to revisit the special Hublot watches that were produced in collaboration with Pelé and released during the FIFA World Cup 2014 that took place in Brazil. The relationship between Pelé and Hublot was long-lasting and these images show the importance of Pelé to the brand.

Football is the world's pre-eminent sport and Pelé remains the only player today to have won three World Cups during his professional career. His journey as a legend started in 1956 when he joined Santos Futebol Clube, a club he stayed with for nearly two decades. Using his passion for football and the youth, Pelé kept inspiring his fans and future generations through his various roles as spokesperson, ambassador, and philanthropist.

The two models include the Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Pelé Black Ceramic —a limited edition of 500 pieces— and the Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Pelé in 18K yellow gold —a limited edition of 200 pieces.

Both watches feature a 45 mm case with a skeletonized sapphire dial with faceted and polished indices and transfers in silver powder and yellow featuring a soccer ball design on the running seconds subdial. Additionally, the number ‘10’ —Pelé’s famous jersey number— on the calendar disc is highlighted in yellow.

Both watches were delivered on an embossed black leather strap with a soccer ball pentagon motif and with yellow contrast stitching for the black ceramic model. Additionally, both watches feature a display case back with the famous illustration of Pelé performing a bicycle kick —’Chilena’ for those in Latin America— with Pelé’s signature in yellow.

Last year, the legendary Pelé was featured in a podcast produced by Hublot and where he talks about the power of love within the beautiful game of football. You can listen to it here.

“It is an honor for me to represent Hublot, a brand that stands for innovation and watchmaking tradition. They share my same commitment to the sport of football.” Pelé

Rest in Peace, Pelé.
