SIHH 2017: IWC Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph. Hands-on Live Pictures & Pricing.

Just as if the new IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph wasn't impressive enough, IWC just presented this new Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph. Powered by a fully new movement with a flying tourbillon, this new watch also features an impressive retrograde date indicator as well as a 12-hour monocounter flyback chronograph.

The Dial & Case

Equipped with a 44 mm 18K red gold and a silvered opaline dial with applied raised Arabic numerals in 18K red gold, the blued hands on the dial add a subtle contrasting touch that elevates the overall look of the watch. The dial features a 12-hour monocounter chrono register at 12 o'clock, a flying tourbillon at 6 and a retrograde date indicator between 8 and 10 o'clock. While we love retrograde date indicators, we are not big fans of the position of the retrograde indicator on this dial; however, we do understand that simply there was really no other better place to put it.

The Strap

Rounding out the elegant design of this watch, the new IWC Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph is delivered on a brown Santoni alligator strap with matching 18K red gold folding buckle.

The Movement

Powered by the brand new in-house automatic movement calibre 89900 with 68-hour power reserve, this movement is one of the most complicated movements that IWC has ever presented and the first time that they combine these three complications in one watch. Additionally, this new calibre fully designed and developed at IWC Schaffhausen features an anchor wheel and escape wheel made of silicon and diamond coating —diamond shell technology— in the shape of Da Vinci's Flower of Life and a stop tourbillon mechanism.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the new IWC Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph wears true to its size and with very impressive wrist presence. With three fascinating complications at the heart of this timepiece, one can only hope to own such a feat of horology one day. Overall, a very nice classic looking watch to add up to the collection.

Sticker Price CHF 120,000 Swiss Francs —approximately $118,000 USD. For more info on IWC click here.
