Insider: Richard Mille RM11 Felipe Massa Rose Gold and Titanium. A Favorite and a Nearly Impossible to Get Nowadays.

With the current state of the watch industry, its pricing bubble and the shortage of certain watches across brands like Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille, the RM11 Felipe Massa continues to be a king within the Richard Mille lineup and the to go watch when you want to go this route. A favorite and impossible to get watch nowadays, the RM11s are commanding crazy prices way above their sticker price when and if found them available at all. The Richard Mille RM011 Felipe Massa in titanium and rose gold is an emblematic model by Richard Mille, named for Felipe Massa from its very conception. Felipe Massa has now achieved 40 podiums in his career and the first sporting figure to have joined the Richard Mille family. A long-time test driver for Richard Mille watches, it was he who enabled the brand to initiate and accomplish astonishing feats in watchmaking development.

The Dial

Very similar in design to all other RM 11s, the Richard Mille RM 11-FM is equipped with a sapphire dial with a mere thickness of 0.4 mm featuring a flyback chronograph, a 60-minute countdown timer and an annual calendar in what we think is a relatively busy dial but that follows the unmistakable look of Richard Mille watches.

The dial layout features a running seconds indicator at 3 o'clock, a monocounter 12-hour chrono register at 6 with hour and minute indicator, a 60-minute countdown timer indicator at 9 o'clock, a double date window located at 12 o'clock that displays the date thanks to a double sapphire disc system located at 10 and 2 o'clock respectively and a clever numeric month indicator located between 4 and 5 o'clock. The dial features white Arabic numerals and tachymetric scale, skeletonized hands with luminescent material and red and yellow hands on the chronograph and the running seconds indicator at 3 o’clock.

The Case, Crown & Strap

The RM11 Felipe Massa is fitted with a titanium middle case sandwiched by a rose gold bezel and case back. Designed in the traditional tonneau shape, the case measures 50 mm x 40 mm x 16.15 mm. Ergonomically finished with a slight curvature, the case wraps around the wrist seamlessly.

The watch is fitted with titanium pushers for the flyback chronograph and with a titanium crown with black alcryn o-ring. The watch is equipped with a ventilated rubber strap with the traditional spring double folding clasp in titanium. Sold in several colors ranging from primary colors to white and grey, the Richard Mille RM11 Felipe Massa takes on a different personality and identity based on its strap color.

The Movement

The beating heart inside the Richard Mille RM11 Felipe Massa is the so-called calibre RMAC1. This calibre is an automatic winding movement, that heralds the brand’s first flyback chronograph. Crafted entirely in grade 5 titanium and hand finished, the calibre features an annual calendar, a 60-minute flyback chronograph and a countdown function, assembled for this anniversary edition. The movement is fully visible via the display case back. This 38-jewel automatic movement provides a power reserve of 50 hours.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the Richard Mille RM11 Felipe Massa Rose Gold and Titanium wears true to its size and extremely comfortably. The wrist presence of this watch is perfectly in line with the price tag and if you like gold without having an ultra heavy gold piece on your wrist this is the way to go. The tripartite case construction with its middle titanium case, makes for a much lighter rose gold watch.
