Insider: Breguet Classique ref. 7787. Hands-on with a Simple, Elegant and Beautiful Timepiece.

Today, we bring you our hands-on review of the Breguet Classique ref. 7787BR/12/9V6, a simple, elegant and extremely good looking timepiece. The Breguet Classique ref. 7787 is a perfect example of Breguet's DNA in a timepiece that offers a moon phase and power reserve complications. Fitted with an 18K rose gold case —also available in 18K white gold— measuring 39 mm in diameter by 10.2 in thickness, the Classique ref. 7787 brings the best from this manufacture at a somewhat reasonable price. The Classique ref. 7787 not only features all the traditional Breguet elements, but seems to be one of the best selling Breguets out there for those looking for a point of entry timepiece from this manufacture.

The Dial

The Breguet Classique ref. 7787 features a silvered gold dial with guilloché center, hours chapter ring with Roman numerals, 38-hour power reserve indicator between 5 and 6 o'clock, a moon phase indicator at 12 o'clock and the watch number inscribed at 9 o'clock in an oval medallion. The dial is delicately finished —as only Breguet knows how to do it—, featuring all the traditional DNA components of timepieces from this manufacture including its secret signatures at 12 o'clock, hand engraved guilloché and its iconic blued open-tipped Breguet hands. The moon phase disc is extremely nice in deep royal blue with gold hand engraved moon.

The Case & Strap

The Breguet Classique ref. 7787 is fitted with a delicately finished case measuring 39 mm in diameter and only 10.2 mm in thickness. As you can appreciate in the picture below, the watch is quite thin and delicately finished with the traditional fluting along the case band. A corrector is conveniently located on the left caseband to make adjustments to the moon phase indicator. Rounding out the elegant look of this timepiece, the Breguet Classique ref. 7787 is fitted with a supple brown alligator strap with the classic Breguet folding clasp. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.

The Movement

The beating heart inside this timepiece is the Breguet automatic movement calibre 591DRL that is fully visible via the display case back. This calibre composed of 217 components, 25 jewels, silicon escapement, Breguet balance wheel and which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph —4Hz— provides a power reserve of 38 hours when fully wound. The calibre 591DRL features a barleycorn 'guilloché' on its gold oscillating weight and the movement is very nicely finished and very pleasing to the eyes.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the watch wears smaller than its actual size and quite light due to its thinness. The wrist presence is extremely elegant, therefore, not a timepiece that would look good while wearing jeans and a t-shirt unless you want for this beautiful watch to look out of place. While we really like the classic design of this watch, we feel that the biggest downside to it, is the lack of a date indicator —at the very least you'll know when the werewolves will be coming out for you on that full moon night.

Sticker Price $29,700 USD 18K rose gold and $30,200 for 18K white gold. For more info on Breguet click here.
