Insider: Hublot Classic Fusion Cruz Diez Limited Edition

Available in two different sizes and three materials, the new Hublot Classic Fusion Cruz Diez will for sure satisfy your hallucinogenic needs. Released to honor deceased Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz Diez, the design of the watch from its dial to its strap is a perfect rendition to the colorful works of art of Cruz Diez who died last year in Paris, France at the age of 95. Cruz Diez was a major protagonist in the field of Kinetic and Optical Art, a movement that encourages an awareness of the instability of reality. His works established him as one of the key 20th-century thinkers in the realm of color.

Having even exhibited his works at the MoMA in NYC, his optical experiments focus on how color and lines can create a sensation of movement as the viewer's relative position to the artwork changes.

Things to Know About the Watch

Available in titanium, black ceramic, or King Gold and in 45 mm or 38 mm, the Hublot Classic Fusion Cruz Diez Limited Edition honors the artist exactly as the artists himself would’ve envisioned it. The dial on this watch creates a constantly evolving optical effect with the help of a crisscross pattern that changes as the time passes by. Thanks to a dial constructed on two different levels with the hour hand located at the bottom level painted with a Cruz Diez pattern in lime green, pink, and baby blue, and the minute hand set against the crisscross pattern on a sapphire crystal. The end result, is a hypnotic dance of time where the wearer is hypnotized by the Moiré pattern that results from the colors and the crisscross pattern in motion.

To match the concept of the watch and the works of Cruz Diez, the black calf rubber-lined strap features a printed Cruz Diez pattern like the one on the dial. An additional solid black strap is available with the watch.

The Movement

The Hublot Classic Fusion Vendôme Collection in titanium is powered by the automatic Hublot calibres HUB1112 —45 mm references— or the HUB 1110 —38 mm references. The movement is composed of 63 parts and 21 jewels —not an in-house movement but a Sellita SW300 finished at Hublot—, which provides a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The movement is fully visible via the display case back and features a skeletonized oscillating weight with the word 'Hublot' in black. The sapphire crystal includes an imprint of Cruz Diez’s signature in white with a black outline.
