Insider: Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Quantieme Annuel. Hands-on with a Great Looking Annual Calendar.

As an ode to the sea and the maritime nature of Ulysse Nardin comes the new Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Quantieme Annuel ref. 1133-210/E3 with a strikingly beautiful 'Grand Feu' blue enamel dial with wave guilloché pattern. With an easy to read layout, its dial features a 60-hour power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock and a month and date indicator at 6.

The Dial & Case

Fitted with a blue 'Grand Feu' enamel dial with white Roman numerals, the layout is very well balanced and easy to read. With a gauge-type power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock and a month indicator with running seconds at 6 o'clock, the date is indicated via the usual round aperture also located at 6 o'clock.

The red accents on the power reserve indicator along with the white railway minute track and the white Roman numerals make for a stunning combination against the dark blue dial with its wave guilloché pattern. Just like the movement powering this timepiece, this 'Grand Feu' enamel dial was made in-house by the Ulysse Nardin enamel specialists Donzé Cadrans. The white hands with luminescent material and the '1846' red writing are just the icing on the cake when it comes to this stunning watch.

In good old Ulysse Nardin fashion, the Marine Chronometer Annual Calendar comes with the traditional highly polished case in stainless steel measuring 43 mm in diameter and with a rubberized screw-down crown that is signed with the iconic UN anchor logo.

The Strap

The new Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Annual Calendar with blue 'Grand Feu' enamel dial is delivered on a dark blue —almost black looking— alligator strap with folding clasp with titanium element with UN logo.

The watch is water resistant to 100 meters; however, if we were you, we wouldn't get the beautiful strap wet. As an option, Ulysse Nardin sells a rubber strap that you could wear instead when engaging in water activities.

The Movement

Powering the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Annual Calendar ref. 1133-210/E3 is the in-house Ulysse Nardin automatic calibre UN-113 with 55 jewels. This robust calibre provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph and it features an anchor escapement which is produced using DIAMonSIL —Ulysse Nardin’s revolutionary alliance of diamond and silicon. DIAMonSIL is silicon treated with a thin layer of diamond coating that not only eliminates the need for lubrication, but also significantly increases the part’s durability. Additionally, the oscillating weight features one anchor on each side and a blue UN medallion also made of DIAMonSIL.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Annual Calendar with blue dial wears true to its size and extremely comfortably. With a very classic yet sporty look, we can see ourselves wearing this watch while hanging out on the deck of an Azimuth 80 yacht while overlooking the clear waters of the Turks and Caicos.
