SIHH 2018: Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. Live Pictures & Pricing.

Inspired by the iconic Memovox Polaris watch from 1968, Jaeger-LeCoultre has released a new collection that is not just a single homage to a historical reference. The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection includes five different models: the Polaris Automatic, Polaris Chronograph —in stainless steel or 18K rose gold—, Polaris Chronograph WT —World Time—, Polaris Date and the Polaris Memovox.

The new Polaris Memovox stays true to its lineage and its vintage inspiration is perceived in every detail of this new watch. Fitted with a 42 mm stainless steel case and its signature three crowns, the watch features the special alarm function that was made famous by the 1968 Memovox Polaris. Available in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox is equipped with a black vintage looking tropical rubber strap.

The Dial

The black dial on the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is distinctive and combines three different finishes. With three concentric circles, the dial features a sunray finished center, graining on the outer circle where the hours and minutes are located and an opaline finish on the rotating inner bezel. Applied Arabic numerals and trapezoidal indexes with vanilla-colored superluminova complete the vintage looking design of this new limited edition.

The Crowns

The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox 50th Anniversary Limited Edition like its predecessor from 1968, features the iconic three-crown design. The top crown is used to set the alarm which turns the the central disc on the dial to line up the small triangle with the desired alarm time. The second crown is utilized to move the inner rotating bezel in either direction and the bottom crown is used to wind the watch and set the time and date.

The Strap

Evoking the 1960s, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is equipped with a very nice and sturdy tropical vintage looking black rubber strap. The strap is fitted with a new folding buckle. The watch is water resistant to 200 meters.

The Movement & Case Back

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is powered by the in-house JLC Calibre 956 featuring a striking mechanism with a gong, along with the central seconds and instant-jump date-change system. This calibre is a direct descendant of the first automatic alarm watch movement created by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the 1950s. Constantly improved, it still represents the ultimate in accuracy, robustness and reliability. This is a rare example of a movement that has been in production for more than 60 years after its creation, continuously updated and modernized. This robust calibre provides a power reserve of 44 hours when fully wound. Unfortunately the movement is not visible as the watch is fitted with a solid case back.
