After the successful release in 2016 of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph CK2998 Limited Edition with blue dial, this year comes a new iteration of the reissue of the legendary and most sought-after Omega ref. 2998. Originally released in 1959, the CK2998 is one of the most iconic Speedmasters in the world. This second iteration of the modern Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch CK2998 retains its classic Alpha hands, symmetrical stainless steel case measuring 39.7 mm in diameter and this time fitted with a 'panda' black and white dial configuration.
Things to Know About the Watch
The new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph CK2998 'Pulsations' Limited Edition just like its predecessor, is available in a limited edition of only 2,998 pieces and fitted with a perforated racing black calf strap with white contrast stitching. For this second reissue of the legendary CK2998, Omega has decided to add another interesting vintage inspired design cue to the watch.
This time, the black bezel matching the chronograph registers and the outer minute track features a 'Pulsations' scale instead of a tachymeter base scale. The 'pulsometer' scale is graduated to 30 pulsations and a bright burnt orange straight seconds hand —not lollipop— and 'Speedmaster' writing in the same color rounds out the design. Both the hour and minute hands and the bezel scale are coated in superluminova for increased visibility in dark conditions.
The Movement
Powering the new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph CK2998 'Pulsations' Limited Edition is the legendary manual wound Omega calibre 1861 which was the iconic movement used in the very first Moonwatch. Based off of the Lemania 1873, the Omega 1861 is an 18-jewel movement beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph to provide a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound. Making this limited edition watch even more special, the original Speedmaster Seahorse medallion has been reintroduced and embossed on the case back protecting the movement.
