Insider: MCT Sequential Two S210 Sport. Hands-on with the First MCT with Rubber Strap.

A couple of years ago, during a meeting with MCT Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps we told them how important it would be for them to have a rubber strap for their watches. Just because MCT likes to do things right, they listened and went trough a lengthy design process to come out with the perfect rubber strap. Furthermore, they went to the extent of coming out with the Sequential Two S210 Sport we have here. This MCT watch with a fully integrated rubber strap that would play with the case and make it a perfect companion for water sports is simply one of our favorite MCT timepieces out there. One thing we do need to mention before we go into talking more about the watch is that the pictures we have here are of a prototype, therefore, numerals and the strap itself might look at little rough around the edges. Rest assured that the final product will be simply exceptional.

The Case & The Strap

With a generous case in blackened DLC titanium measuring 44.6 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm in thickness, the new MCT Sequential Two S210 Sport is simply perfect. With their signature sapphire ring around the case band, sapphire crystals with double anti-reflective coating and hollow lugs, the Sequential Two S210 Sport also features a new element around the case with four fasteners. The strap made of natural rubber features the MCT crest logo at the end of each side near the case. The strap is easy to change and fully integrated seamlessly with the case design.

The Dial

The dial, just like on all other MCT watches released to date, features the same highly legible hours indicated by four modules each comprised of five triangular prisms and where the current hour is highlighted by an open 'window' in a 'C-shape' arc around the center of the dial. This time the dial features a black and ecru combination very similar to that on the new MCT S220 Bronze we reviewed here. As the 'C-shape' arc —this time with an skeletonized cross at the center— rotates sequentially 90° anticlockwise to highlight the new hour, the minutes are displayed via a central hand. The current hour is indicated by the open mouth of the 'C-shape' arc around the center of the dial, which also masks the non-current hours. The current hour displays sequentially in an anticlockwise direction.

The Movement

Composed of 654 parts and with 85 jewels, the movement is nicely decorated with 'Côtes de Genève', circular graining —perlage— and hand beveled edges. The movement features a 'v'-shaped bridge alluding to the shape of MCT's crest. This automatic movement calibre MCT S2.0 on the Sequential Two S200 was fully developed in-house by MCT and it features an 18K gold micro-rotor. The movement beats at a frequency 18,000 vph to provide a power reserve of 50 hours. All watches will be delivered to clients with black DLC coated bridges and mainplate —the picture below is of one of the prototypes without the final finish.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the new MCT Sequential Two S210 Sport wears true to its size and with amazing wrist presence thanks to its ultra sporty strap. Definitely a much needed option for this feat of horology that now is perfectly equipped to wow everyone poolside. Kudos to MCT for listening and creating this remarkable watch and a great looking comfortable rubber strap.
