Insider: Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Carbon. The World's Thinnest Minute Repeater that it's Also Ultra Light.

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Repetition Minutes —Minute Repeater— was first launched in 2016 following the huge success of the Octo Tourbillon Finissimo from 2014 and last year’s Octo Finissimo Automatic. Bvlgari’s mastery of the art of watchmaking was duly acknowledged at last year’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève which rewarded both the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton and the Octo Finissimo Automatic. The world's thinnest minute repeater new Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Carbon is fully cased in a carbon reinforced epoxy with a dial and bracelet in the same material and it is now the only Minute Repeater in the world to feature such material in its construction making it feather light.

About the Watch

With a complex, finely structured 40 mm case in Carbon Thin Ply —a composite relatively similar to the NTPT utilized by Richard Mille—, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater in Carbon is not only very slim but extremely light. With a sheen and unique marbled appearance, the material appears rough to the eye but very smooth to the touch. The slimness of the new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Carbon at 6.85 mm thick —even slimmer than the first AP Royal Oak Jumbo— is based on an ability to rethink, redesign and remodel volumes in the watch industry.

Fitted with a dial in the same material as the case and bracelet with cutout indexes. the time is indicated by silver sandblasted skeletonized hands and a running seconds subdial at 6 o'clock. While from an acoustics standpoint the carbon case is not the best material for a minute repeater, the challenge to make it work speaks volumes of Bulgari's reputation as a consistent innovator in the field of horology in the last five years.

The bracelet is finished with finesse and is an intricate work of art. The delicate ultra-thin bracelet is secured by a triple blade folding clasp in titanium.

The Movement

Powered by the manual wound calibre BVL 362 with a power reserve of 42 hours, the movement features exquisite finishes throughout. Beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph, the sounds of the gongs in this minute repeater are not bad at all considering that this material does not conduct sound as good as metals do.

On the Wrist & Pricing

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Carbon wears slightly bigger than its actual size and more like a 42 mm watch. Due to its light construction and slender profile, the watch barely feels like it's on your wrist. The watch is available in a limited edition of only 50 pieces and its price makes it one of the least expensive minute repeaters in the market.
