Baselworld 2017: Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer 18K Sedna Gold. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.

One of our favorite releases from Omega at Baselworld 2017 and a watch that sparked our love and interest in the brand after a year and a half without featuring any Omega watches here at WCL is the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in 18K Sedna Gold. Also available in stainless steel with a matte black dial —hands-on live pictures coming up later—, this new Speedmaster Racing with a stunning deep dark blue dial and a case in 18K Sedna Gold is simply gorgeous and one that we must own.

Things You Need to Know

Fitted with a dark blue matte ceramic bezel with ceragold tachymetric scale and a dark blue dial with alternating minute-track in racing style —similar to that on the Speedmaster Michael Schumacher limited editions or the Speedmaster Racing ref. 145.0022—, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in 18K Sedna Gold is one of the best racing inspired chronometers we've reviewed lately and our favorite watches released by Omega this year.

The dial with its well balanced layout allows for excellent readability with running seconds at 9 o'clock, date aperture at 6 and a co-axial 12-hour chrono register at 3 o'clock where the elapsed time can be read as a second watch with an hour and a minute hand. Additionally, to guarantee unparalleled readability, the applied hour markers are wider than those on other Speedmasters and with a new beveled arrowhead shape. The watch is equipped with a dark blue alligator leather strap with silver contrast stitching and fitted with a deployant clasp in matching 18K Sedna gold.

This new watch is equipped with a generous 44.25 mm case that is relatively thinner to the case on other Speedmasters like the Speedmaster Moonwatch Co-Axial Chronograph. The reason why the case is thinner is because the sapphire crystal on the display case back has been reworked with more rounded shape around the edge and it is more flushed against the case back ring.

Powered by a new generation of Omega in-house calibres, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer 18K Sedna Gold is powered by the master co-axial calibre 9900/9901 cerfitied by METAS —Swiss Federal Institute of Meteorology. This automatic movement featuring a column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch is anti-magnetic to 15,000 gauss. The movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound and is fitted with an 18K Sedna Gold oscillating weight as well as 18K Sedna gold balance bridge for watches with Sedna gold cases.

On the Wrist & Price

On the wrist, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer 18K Sedna Gold ref. 329.53.44.51.03.001 wears true to its size and with stunning wrist presence. As you guys know, we love blue dials and this one is one of the best we've seen in a long time. Additionally, the combination between 18K Sedna Gold and its blue dial, make up for a perfect watch for every occasion. Without a doubt, a must have if you like blue dials and gold watches.
